Hey Kona, I'll be looking for some Gretsch T rods myself soon. Is the 5" the standard (original) length needed for Gretsch? I don't want to end up buying the wrong length now.

Hi Rik

No - most of them that fit the 50-60 Gretsch bass drum are shorter. The 5" (from under the collar to tip) fit my 1949 24" bass drum with the older Rocket-type lugs. I have 2011/early 50's/late 50's Gretsch kits also all with the Vintage T-Rod tension rods and lugs and they all fit the shorter tension rods. You have to measure from under the collar into the lug on the bass drum to see how long you will need. Like I said most of the newer (50's and newer) fit the shorter = less than 5" tension rods) T-rods.....that's been my experience. But, having said that, my bass drums are 18/20/22" that have the shorter t-rods. Maybe if you have a 24-26+ bass drum the t-rods will have to be longer too - I don't know that....maybe someone else here can answer that for you.

Refinishing a 22" 3ply Gretsch bass shell right now. No hardware included. So I will need everything. Another question: My shell has been drilled for Pratt mufflers on batter and reso heads. Is that original? And since you know these things...Is the hoop inlay originally glued, stapled, or some other adhesion. Thanks for your answers.

Rik - I don't know all these things.....but I have experience with some. I've seen the Pratt Mutes on both heads of some old Gretsch kits but I don't know if that is Factory. The hoop inlay that I've had to remove on old Gretsch hoops have been glued....and not that tight once you get them started. You probably know this already but use a heat gun (I use the hair-dryer type) and carefull start at the seems. If you pry too hard when the area is not heated enough you may break/chip the inlay.
