Nice. 12" hats, huh? Seems like I've seen older UFIP hats that were thicker like yours, all the way down to paper-thin. If not for yours, I'm sure they would magical for SOMEONE's musical needs.

Nice. Those don't show much hi hat wear on the underside, so you may not be the only person who didn't care for them as hi hats.

The engraved UFiP stamp on those looks like the one on my modern Experience series hats. Which surprises me a bit because I didn't think that style of engraved logo went back that far in time. Most of the ones I've seen from that era also have Ritmo as part of the engraving.

Rob Scott's UFiP page doesn't help much with a chronology (or even an ordering) for many of the engraved stamps I've seen. But it's nice to at least have some web page devoted to older UFiP cymbals. They just don't seem to have that much presence (other than new ones) on the web.

and I can't help wondering if those are Clangs rather than Hats (from page 9)

but I've never heard of Clangs before now and the catalog doesn't tell me what size and weight they are. But "Clang" is what I think of when I imagine heavy 12" cymbals. I just liked the name. :D

Great info Z ... my itallian is a little rusty (so bad that the catalog looks to be in french to me:)) but still some great photos/information.

One thing I mis-stated in my original post ... upon closer inspection (looking for the Ritmo you said was often along with that stamp) I noticed that both cymbals are stamped ... one is just very faint ... and definitely no Ritmo.

So if they really are "Clangs" all I have to do is find one more, and that bizare candle-holder looking stand and I'll have a complete set ... that I still won't like the sound of!!!Cool Dude

I have a pair of Zanki Vibra 12" hats, likely to be of around the same age, that I really like - as much as I like 12" hats, which is not too much and if, then mainly for their ability to not make too much noise when recording. Nice for the snare sound!

Acoustically, they are too short.

But these feels thin, compared to the 12" Zildjian A Special Recording hats I had for a while. They felt stiff and too thick.

What weight are your UFIPS?

Hi Jon ... I don't have a way to weigh them at home ... I guess that means a trip to the post office to borrow their scale ... I should be able to get there on Monday and I'll let you know.
