Thanks Moon! I really like the snare stand! Its very solid, I think my only beef would be that it can be kind of tricky to position nice n snug between the hi hat & foot pedal, im not sure if thats expected of flat base though. Either way, it only takes a couple more seconds to dial in. The gearles tilt is really handy, just make sure u tighten it well. Very solid basket as well!

As far as the straight & boom stand, I love them both. I started with buying the boom stand and returned it because im very OCD about how my drums look. I wanted 2 matching cymbal stands. As far as position, its perfect for me. I personally really only play straight stands. Its just how I like it, but youre not me.

You cant go wrong with either stand, they both play really well. At this point its a matter of looks and how high you need your stands to go. Thats why I didnt go with 2 booms, it just didnt look right wih how high I had my top left.

I say try the boom & then exchange it for a straight if you dont like it.

Concerning the snare stand being tough to put between the high hat and the bass pedal, have you tried the overlapping feet feature? This pic kind of shows it, but you have to look close. The boxy rubber "feet" have two holes so you can over lap multiple stands in the same area.

Good point about having to tighten the gearless snare stand, I guess since it doesn't have "teeth", if you leave it too far undone it could be a disaster. :)

I too have a case of OCD when it comes to looks. I found my DownBeats on craigslist and it came with a very nice, double braced, super modern heavy duty Pearl boom for my ride, but the looks kind rub me the wrong way. I read somewhere that the atlas classic boom stand is convertible to a straight, but I'm not sure. Tough call as I have to with online as there are no dealers around here.

The straight Atlas Classic I have on my crash is super, super nice.

Yeah, the feet feature is incredible and makes flat base hardware much more doable! I was talking more about the pedal boards themselves, not the overlapping of the bottom braces themselves.

I know exactly what stand youre talking about, its a BEAST. Yes the boom is convertable to a straight, and honestly thats all I found myself using it for because like I said I really only use straight stands. Its a great boom/straight stand. I just found myself wanting the straight stands. I got the boom at first because they gave me a killer deal.

Thats a bummer about only being able to buy online, Im sorry! It really is a great stand, im sure you wouldnt regret getting another one :] Unless you need a boom I say stick with the straight!

I think I might get the boom as Musicians Friend has $10 off making it cost the same as the straight.... Since it is convertible, I think I may end up with the most options in the long run... Snare stand will have to wait, this was supposed to be an cheap Craigslist find for me to record with (I am a guitarist primarily), and it is turning into a larger financial issue. I CANNOT complain though, I only have $400 total in my kit. My family ended up buying my '70 Supra for me as a birthday gift, so that helped tremendously.

Oh, and back to the topic at hand, your kit really is killer. :)
