1950's Zildjian K Istanbul ???????

Loading...

howdy friends,

i could really use some advice. i was searching the local Craigslist scene for vintage drums and stumbled across a potential gem. "old zildjian cymbal" was what the man called it. so i went and looked at it. turns out it is a 1950's K zildjian istanbul. instantly my heart started pumping. after further investigation i noticed it had at one time been cut down. the stamp was at the very edge of the cymbal. so close that the tip of the moon was almost touching the edge. what i think at one time was most likely a 20" ride is now 17 3/4". the underside of the bell still had the small, rectangular, white sticker with the black ZILDJIAN logo. and the signature was there too.

is there any value to a cymbal like this?

id love to hear some feedback on this so i know in the future.

thanks

its value has diminshed from what it would have been without the trimming of the cymbal. its good that someone at least tried to salvage it. i'd say a lot of its current value would be based on how it sounds.

Old stamps have their trademarks near the edge and sometimes they even run off the edge like that. That cymbal hasn't been cut-down. Your looking at a nominal 18". I recommend that you buy it before someone else does.

Oh man, what a supreme bummer!!

Yes that's a normal looking stamp for an old stamp trademark, and a type IIb to be precise. I also have one from exactly the same era that weights 1308 grams. I think its one of the best K's of all time. It could have been hammered by the angels in heaven as far as I'm concerned. I believe I first saw this same cymbal on eBay in about 2001 but missed winning it by just a few bucks. Same weight, same trademark era. Then I purchased what appeared to be the very same one that was on eBay back recently through another source.

So I know how dissapointed you must be now. I'm sorry.
