here's my japanese kit that i got a few months back. the kit was already in fair shape. all the wraps were tight and the hardware was average. i took it apart, cleaned the entire kit, oiled the moving parts, and reassembled it.

enjoy.

WOW - how bizarre! I just sold a Majestic kit EXACTLY LIKE THIS about a week ago. It was my first full restore and sold it to a friend of mine. I will eventually start a restoration thread about it. I had no idea that there was any other stencil with offset lugs other than Majestic.

Please share some details of your kit. Metal BD hoops right? 9 ply shells like my Majestic Deluxe? Any transparency of the wrap (revealing the brown of the shells)? Rounded edges? What sizes?

John

Well the BD hoops are metal, the sizes are 14x20, 8x12, 14x14. The wraps are transparent. I didn't really notice that until I had the hardware off and was in the sun with the shells. Not sure of the wood used. It doesn't sound too bad either. I was surprised.

Gray interiors?

This Majestic is the same sizes.

It is made by Star and is the typical 'Philippine Mahogany' AKA Luan. I have reports that they sound amazing. How did I set it up? Remo Clear Ambassadors on the toms, both tuned to the timbre pitch of the shell, use Studio Rings. Aquarian SKI on the BD batter. I actually installed a RIMS mount on the 12 inch tom.

Another thing I appreciate about this kit is the BD shell. While that style of spurs is known to be weak and detrimental to BD shells, this BD shell is thick and strong enough that these legs can be so high that the front of the drum can be elevated to suspend it so high the center front lug is suspended above the floor......without any bending/distortion of the shell. This is the first time I have seen this possible with this type of spur.

Ralf and the fraternity of European fans of the Stars will be delighted to see this thread. I have only seen one other MIJ stencil with this wrap.

A couple comments about 'beautiful kit' appearing here.

Hey 84 - Clearly you did an outstanding job on your kit! It looks brand new.....IMHO looks better than a Ringo Oyster kit (gonna catch H*ll for that one I bet!) Don't want to highjack your thread....just diggin' on these drums!

Your kit is a beauty and I am wondering if this is a newly discovered badge: Supre Macy - or I would assume Supremacy.

Hey Mikey777 ever heard of this one?

John

Yes John, I have heard of this one badge Supre Macy.

As you know its a Star made set mid 60's to the late 60's.

These sets were sold or should i say given away by the Blue Chip Stamp catalogs in the mid 60's.

As far as the wrap most of these shells were painted a flat white paint on the out side of shell to cover up the wood because of the wrap being so thin..Mikey

Can confirm what Mikey777 said: my DrumMate has the white paint as well under it's WMP wrap.

This is a great kit with a rare offset design of the lugs! Nice.
