Advice re: Value of the Premier Vintage Kit

Loading...

Good Day,

Thanks for the words Mr P! All true in my experience, by the way I have this week picked up a genuine early 70s Mahogany shelled 18x12 in Silver Star.

Now, as to the true identity of the set under question Mr larryz... Naturally without seeing the CL one I couldn't possibly confirm that it is the same one I made. However, the clincher for me is the snare. New fitted strainer/butt, triple flange hoops, white painted interior. I would wager there is not another in the world.

The chap who bought from me was 58yrs old, his name was Jan Tuckley. During the 1970s he was a staff drummer/instructor with the Army School of Music. As I remember it he sent me photos of a very nice Ch Sp 20/14/12 old Rogers he had and a WMP Slingerland. As to his state of health I couldn't comment. They arrived in the states in February of last year, Ridgeley WV.

Check inside the BD, that's the giveaway.

Good Day fellow Premier lovers. Fortunately I am in a position to offer a little information on this set... For it is I who made it.The 18x12 bass is a cut down 70s Premier floor tom in Birch. Evident to the interior are eight dowel filled holes from previous lug fixings plus one badge hole and a damper and screw hole filled. Both hoops are new. The 14x14 is a 60s Premier Birch shell, the 12x8 is a regular (ie not PI) size birch Premier shell from the 70s.. The snare is indeed a cut down tom, Premier birch shell 13x6.5, 8lug. The whole set was rewrapped in Delmar Red Glitter. I sold it last year to a chap in the hills of W Virginia who seemed very happy. I would expect the current seller is attempting to recoup the original price paid plus hefty shipping fee. Here are some photos from the original advertisment:http://s752.photobucket.com/albums/xx164/dirtyboppa/Vintage%20Premier%20Red%20Glitter%20SOLD/Hope this helps...Spart

Hey Spart, it's nice to see you over here at VDF!

Haven't heard from you in awhile since we met up over on DFO.

I'd encourage you to wow the geeks here with some pics of your superb collection of Premier sets.

My 1969 Premier"bop" set has been seen here before.

It's the 'real deal'... no mods... and worth every penny and more of the $1,625 Bill Maley got from me 2 years ago.

Thank you for the kindly welcome Ron and co.

Virtually all my stuff is displayed "publicly" on the Photobucket site, feel free to peruse. Username is "dirtyboppa"... It's an H Lyttleton related joke.

Yes, it is a very nice kit, and its originality would make it worth the price tag over here too, I´d think.

Which also points to the red kits price not being too far off - without being a bargain in any way, of course.

I think it is nice to hear from Spart, that he sold the kit to what is likely to be the sellers uncle - and that the seller therefore might be excused for thinking it has been his uncles for years and years.

"Tuck" was my instructor in 1975/76. Many of us drooled over the Premiers that the chief percussion instructor at the school had. I started playing again in 2012 after not playing for many (20?) years. It was a 1964 Slingerland I restored that resparked my interest, along with the extra time that retirement brings with it.

Here in the USA, 3 1/2 years ago, I paid $1600 for my Burgundy Pearl set.

No regrets!

Blair, Thanks, I prefer mine too, but Grey Shimmer is a classy wrap.

Actually, Ebay converts it to $2,509. I'm watching it with interest.
