Who's Collecting Ludwig Serial Numbers?

Loading...

Here's one that might be of interest.

I bought a Ludwig 14x10 Marching snare and it just arrived today. I was very surprised when I saw the date stamp.
Dec. 31, 1968
It's a New Years Eve drum. I checked the 1968 calendar and that date was on a Tuesday.
14x10 Blue Sparkle Marching Snare
Keystone Badge

Serial Number: 668116

3-ply shell with clear interior

P-83 script logo throw-off

Two point script logo butt-end plate

Round muffler knob

Original COS bottom hoop

COB Slingerland top hoop

Hope this helps with the Ludwig Serial Number Dating Guides. I'll get some pictures posted too.

Interesting. Made by an employee who used up all his/her vacation time I guess. x-mas3

While we're on the topic, a recent version of this song by the Stylistics I recently discovered. Sweet! Enjoy.... :)

All I can say is, "What bearing edges, how wide ya gonna make that snare bed and just slap some wood filler in there."

I think the builders had other things on their minds when they did this drum. :)

It's going to become a 14x5.5 Jazzfest reproduction. Thanks, Billnvick.

Here are some pictures of the shell, badge, and date. One of the previous owners put black contact paper on the shell, which really protected the wrap. Unfortunately, I have to remove all of the leftover glue.

Tim,

I am collecting Ludwig info. I hope to improve on the current guides and extend them into the 1970s a bit. So far I have almost 1200 drums in my database that have serial numbers and date stamps. I have some information posted at my website under the "Ludwig Serial Number Dating Projects" tab.

Thanks for reporting your new drum.

Rick

Collecting information about the following for ongoing research projects:
Gretsch drums with serial numbers,
Ludwig Keystone and B/O badge drums with serial numbers and date stamps,
Ludwig Standards from 1968-73, and
