Loading...

Just finished this one up tonight.

1970s Pearl Wood/Fiberglass 14x22, 16x16, 9x13, 8x12

Rescued summer 2012 out of a damp basement in Wichita, Ks.

Not sure what the color is: it's a Maple PSA veneer.

Will be going up on eBay soon!

Here are a couple of "before" pics. The pictures really don't show how bad the wrap was. It was wrinkled, shriveled, cracked, split, and even a couple of hunks were gone...

Wow, huge turnaround. It's a shame that wrap was in such bad shape, looks like it was a cool one.

Pearl offered this line of wood/fiberglass drums throughout the 1970s. It is a 9-ply shell with no reinforcement rings and a thin layer of fiberglass sprayed on the inside of the shell. These drums are loud and punchy, and pretty heavy to lug around. They were not as popular as their all-fiberglass brothers, which Pearl also offered during this time period as well as into the early 1980s. The all-fiberglass shells were also punchy and loud, but held their tuning much better and also were much lighter in weight. I have owned a set of the wood/fiberglass drums since I bought them new in 1978, but actually think the all-fiberglass shells are better.

BTW -- you should have received tracking info from UPS (to the paypal email address). Your drum shipped out yesterday...

Yes, I like the blue oyster as well... but this just wasn't worth saving. I did save all of the wrap, because sometimes somebody's looking for a piece for a repair job.

Yeah I must share that when I saw this I was mad! How dare he do away with that wrap!!!! Though.....I must concede that it must have been really messed up for him not to save. I mean, to re-wrap any piece of that - pretty much impossible I imagine.

Nice nice job on these drums though. I am sure for Pearl loving (those style lugs) and a the big naked fan (fan of that look - not a naked....nevermind!) ......this kit is a beauty!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
