Pre-serial Ludwig acrolite. 1st year of production

Hello all. I just bought a vintage keystone kit and it came with a pre-serial acrolite snare. orange peel finish with red felt. I dont know much about this snare. Is this a rare model making it more collectible? Any info is appreciated.

they are uncommon but do show up from time to time. if its the first generation acro(commonly called prototype), it will have a large welded brace on the inside of the drum. great sounding drums. just be careful with the top hoop if it still has the aluminum hoop. they bend easily. congrats on the find. what kit did you get?

Mike, just pulled the top hoop off. Before I read your post I was very surprised to see that the hoop was aluminum. What a strange little snare. I will post a pic later.

Great find! I have one, and there is red wax pencil markes at the top lip, where they drilled for the lugs. Does yours? Nevin

ive got one that appears to have come factory with imperial lugs and the round knob muffler. ive seen one more like this one. the bottom hoop was aluminum and the top was chrome so i made them match. one of my favorite snare drums..

Sorry for the delay in the pics. Her you go! Still needs a light clean. Any idea of how or where to sell it? I thought about just keeping it do to the rarity but someone should be able to play it.
