Ludwig Rockers? Maybe?

Loading...

Those are first generation Ludwig Rockers. They used Ludwig "Standard" series lugs and that's an very early Rocker kit with that style of double tom mount. Almost all the Rocker kits I have seen have the ball and socket mount. It's also odd that the bass drum mount for the tom post has the plastic T handle, but all the other T handles on the kit are metal (toms/floor tom legs). Maybe the bass drum plate or the plastic T handle is from another kit, or maybe the tom post is not original? This must be one of the very early Rocker kits that were transitioning over from the Standard line, although the Black/White badge indicates 80's.

The Standard series were available in the very late 60's and early 70's and were bascially 3 ply "Classics" with cheaper hardware and fittings, and the insides were Granitone (Gray Speckled Paint). Standards were available until the mid-70's I believe. Standards go for pretty decent money on ebay, considering they were a "budget" or "B" kit at the time.

I think $400 is a fair price. It could be the lighting, but it looks like the floor tom is slightly mismatched color wise.

They are the speckled paint. Should I try to sell it as a set or 1 drum at a time?

I would say your drums are Rocker 2's but not shure. I would sell it as a kit unless you are planning on listing each peice on ebay, then ship each peice. Too much trouble, keep the kit together and sell it local, that what I would do. I doubt if it will sell for 400 but you can strart there.

I love my Rockers kit. Purchased for $250 last year, though buying new heads and cleaning took another $125. But it sounds great and I love the chrome over wood snare too. Made in USA before later 1990s Rockers got all cheapo and were made overseas. I totally have my Loverboy "Working for the Weekend" thing going on playing these tubs ....

I'd keep them! White wrap looks really clean and cool :) Who needs an 8" tom anyway?

I got a snare with this set, but there is NOTHING on it to tell me what it is. I don't think it is the matching snare. I don't even think it's Ludwig. It just has a GIANT snare wires on it.

Probably a cb700 snare, made in Tiawan.

I have a matching snare to that kit. I borrowed a few parts off of it, but it's available minus the lugs, throwoff, and butt plate.

Just so you know, the following is what is included: The shell, with the muffler and badge attached, and both hoops. This was originally a COW drum in which the wrap was in terrible shape. It was professionally re-wrapped in NOS 70's white cortex wrap. The interior was painted black, which I removed, then painted white. What is interesting is it's a pointy B/W badge, with no serial #. I could do $40 plus shipping.
