A new badge to me.A friend emailed me this today its on Ebay..for 750.00 or best offer

The badge is "Starlight"...

The lugs on the set are Pearl made i have seen these lugs on Crown made sets also along with about 20 or so names used by Pearl.. so is the other hardwear but i have seen the muffler on both sets made by Star and Pearl..

The strainer is a Pearl made one...

Iam going to say its a Pearl made set..

What do you guys think?

Please clear your messages-I'm trying to contact youBurger Kin Up until this time I was unaware that Crown was a Pearl product. They don't seem very similar,as Crown lugs are very big-maybe too big for some drums (8X12).How did that relationship work? Was Crown a seperate make, because it really is not a stencil of anything.

teverson-sr: especially the snare lever and it's casing (the round shaped one) make me think that Crown was a separate company.

Yamaha, Crown and Hoshino had a different - particular - style of hardware at their drums, although Hoshino seemed to copy some of their parts (copy = bought from the same general producer for hardware at that time, if there was one?) from Pearl or Star.

Mikey777, I think your snare could be either a Crown or a Hoshino sub-brand.

I watched this one for a while - talked to the last owner - you see this was just sold on CL in SW Mich. for about $300some. Not worth 750. But a nice grab nonetheless. I had not shared this on here because I thought a friend of mine was going to snag it up.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Crown, was made by Pearl and sold under the Crown name think if C.B.700 and Maxtone,Maxwin, whitehall were all made by Pearl even the old catalogs with these names Crown ete said made by Pearl on the front cover or on back cover..

Crown lugs say on the snare drum i posted are copy's of the Roger's B.T. lugs of the 60's.So are the tom and bass drum lugs in a way..

Alittle more info. on the Crown line of drums they were the first ones in the mid 60's to have 8 lugs per a side on the 12" and 13" roms, the bass drum was the first one to have 10 lugs per a side..

It was a selling point to the Crown line of drum's Pearl's thinking was more lugs on the drums you could tune them up better, but that was not the case with the 12s and 13s.'Pearl /Crown stop making these toms with in a few years and went back to 6 lugs a side but they did keep the 10 lug bass drums..

Pearl made the 10 lug bass drums because of Ludwig/Roger's ete all made 10 lug bass drums and Crown/Pearl was useing thes for a selling point..Mikey

In the 60's the top three drum makers in japan were Pearl/Star and Hoshino..They all made all kinds of mounts lugs stand's ete, this is why you will sometime see the parts say from Star looking on a Pearl made set ete..This is why sometimes its hard on some of these sets to pick out the maker.

This is why you should start at the badge shape ete but them again on this Starlight set you see a badge that would make you think its rounds and looks like a Star badge but it is not its a Pearl made drum set..

This is why going and looking at all the history on these M.I.J. set's gets hard..

It was like they all had their hand in the cookie jar making 1,000's and 1,000's of sets for export to mostly the U.S..A and with all the names they used my list is right at 164 name's...It seem's when i think i have them all some other name comes along...Mikey
