"Leedy Autotune"? Never heard of a Leedy Autotune before. Isnt that a Duplex?

Autotune was the name of the 'drum-tuning system' used on the Duplex drums. Either designation is legit because both names relate to the same drum. You say autotune to most drummers (who know vintage drums) and they'll know exactly what you're talking about.

Semantics... 6 of 1, half dozen of the other. Or, as they used to say in Brooklyn, 'same difference!' lol

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Please post that pic. I'd love to see it regardless.John, if you're ever on the MS Gulf Coast, let me know. You're more than welcome to come over and "hit a lick" on them.It may be a while before I swap the heads out...they're nearly new. But, I can't help but think that coated Aquarian Super 2s would sound real good on this kit. They're 2-ply, but not much thicker than a medium weight single-ply. I just put my last set of coated Double Thins - predecessor of the Super 2 - on the Ludwig kit. I started hoarding Double Thins several years ago when they were discontinued and the first set of Super 2s I bought didn't live up to my expectations...though Mr. Burns assured me I must have gotten a set from a bad roll of mylar. Anyway, I have one more set of clear DTs stashed. Guess I'll have to give the Super 2s a second chance some time in the not too distant future. As for comparison, the 14, with the Emperor, thumps more and doesn't ring as much. It really doesn't open up as much, which is the down side, but still has plenty tone. The 13 and 16, with Ambassadors, open up nicely, but ring a little too long. This is why I love the Double Thins...they're the best of both worlds in my opinion. They're puchy, but still open and resonant.By the way, thanks for the video and pics. I had seen them - been surfing the net for any vids and pics of Mr. Deems I can find - but I appreciate the thought. On that note: If anyone has interesting pics of Mr. Deems, especially if he is sitting behind a kit that remotely resembles this one, please post it.Mr. Moderator, would it be allowable for me to start a thread requesting the same?Thank you very much, sir!Again, thank you all!Lynn

Lynn!

Absolutely! Start a thread looking for pics/documentation of your set. Would be fabulous if one of our many "drum detectives" came up with something! By the way... I would be remiss to not add: NICE set!! I like just LOOKIN' at them, let alone get to play them!

Leedy and Ludwig Knob Tension snare drums had knobs. That snare in the video doesn't appear to have knobs. If it is an Autotune, wouldn't that be of European make - Ivor's system? Leedy wouldn't have any connection, would it?

Thank you very much, sir! It would be VERY nice if someone could come up with a pic of Mr. Deems playing this kit "back in the day."

Thanks also for the compliment! The invitation is open to you as well, if you find yourself in south Mississippi, shoot me a message. You're more than welcome to stop by and bang out a tune or ten.

Also, a big thank you to all you and David - and anyone I don't know of - do to keep this forum going!

Thant's what I was getting at. I believe they were called Arbiter. Definitely no connection to Leedy.

Ivor Arbiter. He developed one of the systems. His was called the Autotune, if memory serves. Same guy that ran the drum shop that sold Ringo his first Ludwig kit. I figured that was what you were saying. Big difference between this and the Leedy and Ludwig Knob tension snare. Autotune was European. The Knob tension was American, I believe.

Leedy and Ludwig knob tension I meant, of course autotune were made by Ivor Arbiter in the early 70s, I just mixed the name up.

It looks like one but the quality of the film is poor, it could well be a Duplex.

I just can't seem to see any knobs on the one in the film. Anyone?

Nope on second viewing there do not appear to be any knobs and you can just make out tension bolts so Duplex is the probability, I wonder when the film dates from.
