Wasn't there a Radio King promotional picture with Barrett playing a kit much similar to that? I'll check when I get home to see if I still have it.

I would greatly appreciate that! I've been looking for pictures of Barrett with this kit.

Thank you for the offer!

I did find the photo. It is an endorsement RK pic with Barrett and Joe Venuti. Same kit size wise but it is WMP.

Lynn - If you're going low to mid with the tuning on the toms, go with the 2-ply coated heads. You'll get a nice deep tone without some of the over-ring you get with single-ply at higher tunings. Just know that you're trading some tone for attack with 2-ply. You'll hear more stick with the 2-ply, but they'll be much better sounding at the lower tuning levels. Please post a review if you try them with the heavier heads. I'm curious to know what you think of the difference in sound. Better/worse?

Oh man, I wish I could sit down behind them and hear them from the drivers seat. Must be a little bit of 'drummer heaven'! I'm really happy for you. Classic kit and a treat for any drummer to be able to play on. Enjoy amigo...

Don't forget to tell us if you swap out the heads. Review please!

Barrett Deems, worlds fastest drummer!

Ah... not quite. Not as long as Buddy was around he wasn't! LOL!! Funny story: Barrett Deems was playing a club in Chicago back in the day and had a sign in front of the club billing him as "The Worlds Fastest Drummer". Buddy popped into the club and went right up to Barrett and said, the worlds fastest drummer? Really? Barrett promptly went outside and removed the sign. True Story! Regardless... Barrett Deems was an excellent player and was pretty darn fast too... just not Buddy fast!

Good eye! No lugs showing... must be! Sounds great don't it? Deems relies a lot on accented dbl. stroke rolls in that solo, the snare is really articulate and gives it all back to him. Even in that poor quality recording of it.

To his credit, Buddy achieved the same blazing speed from single-stroke rolls. Much harder to execute. Deems' speed comes from dbl. strokes, a little bit of a 'speed-cheat' playing-wise. Impressive, -strong- drummer nonetheless.

John, if you're ever on the MS Gulf Coast, let me know. You're more than welcome to come over and "hit a lick" on them.

It may be a while before I swap the heads out...they're nearly new. But, I can't help but think that coated Aquarian Super 2s would sound real good on this kit. They're 2-ply, but not much thicker than a medium weight single-ply. I just put my last set of coated Double Thins - predecessor of the Super 2 - on the Ludwig kit. I started hoarding Double Thins several years ago when they were discontinued and the first set of Super 2s I bought didn't live up to my expectations...though Mr. Burns assured me I must have gotten a set from a bad roll of mylar. Anyway, I have one more set of clear DTs stashed. Guess I'll have to give the Super 2s a second chance some time in the not too distant future.

As for comparison, the 14, with the Emperor, thumps more and doesn't ring as much. It really doesn't open up as much, which is the down side, but still has plenty tone. The 13 and 16, with Ambassadors, open up nicely, but ring a little too long. This is why I love the Double Thins...they're the best of both worlds in my opinion. They're puchy, but still open and resonant.

By the way, thanks for the video and pics. I had seen them - been surfing the net for any vids and pics of Mr. Deems I can find - but I appreciate the thought.

On that note: If anyone has interesting pics of Mr. Deems, especially if he is sitting behind a kit that remotely resembles this one, please post it.

Mr. Moderator, would it be allowable for me to start a thread requesting the same?

Thank you very much, sir!

Again, thank you all!
