Fibes Frosted Crystalite

Loading...

Hi,

I picked up a Martin era Fibes frosted crystalite kit this past week.

It has a single post double tom holder that created two cracks out from the bolts. The tom holder mechanism is all complete and works--not that that's a good idea. That and the separating hoop inlays sum up the so far obvious problems; one I can fix the other I can keep an eye on.

Just dusted so far. What do you clean these with? I imagine there is a bit of junk built up in all the dimples that needs cleaning out.

Sound good as is, can't wait to give them a play.

cheers,

Patrick

Very cool kit, too bad about the damage. Fairly rare finish if I'm not mistaken.

I owned a kit back in the 70,s and as great as they are ,be VERY careful about any hairline cracks. You need to fix them asap, but ask an expert first before you try yourself.

Hit like you mean it!!

Hey Patrick,Cool set yes these are hard to come by its the second rarest finish for the 70's Fibes drums you can fine..

With your set that makes 8 set's that i know about..

I got the one i have way back is 1989 at a drum shop in cal for 150.00 its a 24",13",14",monted toms.16",18" floor toms..

These Fibes drums always seem to crack around the tom mount's,their is no good way on fixing this, because of the weight of the tom on the mount..

If i was you i would mount the tom on a rim's mount and mount it off a cymbal stand or you could just used a snare drum stand..

When it comes to cleaning these shell's what i do is re-move the hardweare and give the shell's a Dawn bath in cold water..

Thanks Mikey,

I was figuring a gentle wash with Dawn would be the most effective, glad for the confirmation.

Green Glass: These were in Nova Scotia since they were purchased new.
