Just so everyone knows how excited he is, Lynn was still sending me pics of his kit at 2 am this morning. Awesome kit buddy. Congrats again on the score!

Wow! Lynn, that is beautiful! It's so wonderful that you know the backstory with this kit. I always wonder about the history of all these great old drums we own. Thanks for sharing the history with us. Enjoy those, and give that great big bass drum a few extra thumps for me please!

Hello All - I saw Barrett Deams play several long solos (10 minutes) at the Chicago Vintage and Custom drum Show in the mid 1990s. He was about 75 years old at the time and he played like a man half that age. Wonderful swinging solos! We looked at the Slingerland book that I had bought there. What a great drummer and a really nice guy.

He was playing a Slingerland kit .(Probably 1960s).

Wow!

What a great kit! Congratulations!

I always thought a 12x14 was one of the best sounding drums I've ever heard.

Thanks for the compliment!

He played with Louis Armstrong, Jimmy Dorsey, and a host of others.

To prevent creating a LOOONNNGGG thank you post like I did yesterday, I will say a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to everyone for all the kind words!

I backed off the tension on the toms last night to fatten them up. The single-ply heads are a little ringy without using the mufflers - I just prefer not to use them, and usually don't have to. However, I don't even notice it while I'm playing around the kit. They sound really nice!

I may use 2-ply heads on them when the time comes to replace them. The 14 has an Emperor on it and it has a nice solid "thump." I haven't gotten to really play them yet - just about 20-30 seconds on the full kit last night. I have them set up in my drum room now with all but the ride cymbal. I'll mount that on a stand tonight and go to town. I can't wait to get home! Jump For Joy
