Early to mid 60s MIJ ROYAL - nice one

Loading...

Hey fellow VDF- sorry for my long absence - I have been busy with lots of good stuff- drum related and fun - but keeps me from posting much.

Here is awesome find that is currently on auction here in Japan- an early to mid 60s ROYAL kit. The photos speak for themselves I think- enjoy!

Wow!! Eric, First of all Welcome back. Now onto the set that is so cool i have never seen a 6o's M.I.J. set with a matching seat like that in 30+ years in dealing in 60's M.I.J. drum's. One question are you going to bid on the set or did you buy it?...Mikey

Mikey, thanks much brother-

it ends in 5 hours and is about 500$ - I think it's a little rough for that kind of bread. Look at the inside shots of the drum seat- it's a bit dried out- so I expect the drum shells to be the same way. I would go about 300$ myself- BUT I have seen others similar and if one were in a little better shape I would scoop it.Sumo Dude

Most interesting to me was calf skin heads on all drums - tops and bottoms- even the bass drum. Also the snare stand seems a bit more recent but mysterious- it has wheels!

I love this website-once a week some totally unknown brand just appears from nowhere. Is this brand common in Japan? And Mikey-why aren't you and Osaka writing the ultimate MIJ catalog, finally dispelling all Pearl/Star myths?I'll pay my $20 forward to help with production costs...Burger Kin

Very neat set!! I must say that it is a first for me to see a canister throne with a MIJ set...I like the badge...

Jonnistix would also be a great influence on the MIJ catalogue if it ever did come to life...

Cheers

Wow at 500.00 U.S. yes Eric that is high for the set.But i do see some cool things on the set,one is that the T-rods on the bass drum look like copy's of 60's Camco drums, the handle on the strainer looks to be a copy of a Slingerland Radio King from the 40's,makes me think if the top half sides up and down like on the S/L?...Yes i have seem photos of these seat's in catalog's from the 60's but this is the first real photo i have seen. One of these seat's in the U.S. i would have to say would be very very rare to have or even fine one...I would also say that this set was made by Star pre Tama in the 60's?.......Mikey
