So my long-time dream came true today - I acquired myself a pair of 14" Paiste 2002 hats!
I once tapped on a pair of medium 2oo2s at a shop and I immediately knew that was the sound I was looking for. All Paistes cost abhorent money though, so I just waited for a sceond-hand opportunity to show up and was pretty content with my Istanbul Turks.
Long story short, I scored a pair of black label 2oo2s for roughly 100 dollars. Pretty sweet deal, considering a new pair costs about five or six times more.
I'd be just as happy with red labels, but knowing these are vintage gives them that kinda special feel flowers2
They're very clean, surely have been polished at some point and the edge of bottom hat is buffed to brilliance by the top cymbal - I really dig the look of it. Also, interestingly, there seems to be a small unlathed area at the bottom's bell.
They have kinda more aggresive sound than how I remembered them from the shop and how they sound on Paiste website, so I thought they might be Heavy, not Medium, after all, but the top weighs 649 and the bottom 801 grams, so that don't seem too heavy to me.
Anyway, I can't wait to play some Doors or Pink Floyd on 'em. Old music always sounds better with proper instruments!
