I just bought a 20x14 kick drum and 16x14 floor tom; they're Tempro (Pearl)'s.
I'm pretty sure they're late 60s. Can anyone give me any info on them? Are they decent quality and judging from the picture are they fore sure late 60s?
It is my understanding that these lugs, called Battleship lugs, were used by Pearl for stencils from approx. 72-74.
Nice grab (if the price was right?) I bet the wrap on these will outlast your Rogers. (no implication intended - it totally sucks)
I have had many vintage MIJs and have not seen too much cracking on their wraps at all.
I have a Dixie with these same lugs - never had any problems with them, and have had them for 27 years.

Yep. I'm no expert on anything but, from what I know, Mikey is right on.

20" kick drums were more common in the 60s so mine's most likely a 69 right?
So 69-74 were identical all those years ? Were there any prior to that??
These shells came out in about 67 on these M.I.J. set's..Yes the Tempro drums shells were the same from 67-74...In late 74 the Tempro name was not used anymore by Pearl but on the other hand these same 9 ply shell's made on most if not all M.I.J., drum's are still used today on 100 or so name's.....Mikey
Is there any way from the picture of telling if they were from the end of the 60s or early 70s?
Yes these shells are the same from about 69-74 9ply with-out rings, mid 68 and back to about 65 the shells were 3 or 4 ply with rings also these shells were clear inside..Tempro started to paint the inside of the shells when they started with the 9 ply sheels they were had gray paint inside of them...Mikey
