Pearl Wood 7pcs kit 70's?

Oooops. Sorry. I didn't notice that was the inside of one of the CTs. I just noticed the gray painted interior and didn't look closer. My bad.Like I said, I'll check catalogs when I get home. If for no other reason I'm curious to see if Pearl offered this specific configuration or if this was a special order...And the reason I asked about the badge on the SD is because from what I can see it looks like the standard "generic" MIJ metal SD of the era that ended up with only-God-knows how many different name brands on them. Not a bad SD though. This set really looks like one that was taken care of. You sure won't find many of these in this condition.Bill

Did you get a chance to check your catalog?

I just did this morning. I have complete copies of Pearl's American market catalogs from 1975 and 1978. I know this sounds weird, but the '75 catalog was their main catalog from sometime in '74 until sometime in '77 and then the '78 catalog was used until the '80 catalog came out.

Your particular set configuration isn't listed in either catalog. That doesn't mean it wasn't purchased originally as a set. The picture you posted (from the '78 catalog) IMO is probably what the set was, plus the concert toms. It was probably special ordered that way -- which most drum companies did at the time (and probably still do). I tend to think it probably was a special order, because in those two catalogs they are very specific in stating that the concert toms are only available in fiberglass shells. A later "flyer" had the concert toms also available in the "phenolic" shells, but I've not found anything with the CTs in wood only with the gray interiors. Those interiors were standard on their "w" series drums, however.

The exception might be that these came out of another market (i.e., Pearl also had a Japanese market with Japanese catalogs) OR it could be these are out of the early 70s and not the mid-to-late 70s. I don't have the early 70s catalogs. More or less thinking out-loud here...

Here's a link to a page on the sister sight. It's from the 1970 catalog, and does seem to imply the different types of shells may have been available, at least through special order, on all of their drums.

I hope I've helped rather than confused through all of this...

Hi Bill,

Thanks again for all your help. I also found out upon inspection that the snare was made in Taiwan. There is nothing on the rest of the shells indicating they were made in taiwan only on the snare.

I just came in to a kit with grey interiors but the badges look to be from the 80s. They are rectangles mostly black with the logo in silver and silver trim on the sides and top with serial numbers across the bottom.I am not familiar with the grey interiors either but you can tell its factory. As I keep digging I will keep you posted.
