Mica Swingline

I've been talking with a guy locally who has a Mica Swingline set. All I know is that it's Japanese. He's asking $150, is it worth that?

Depends on condition and whether or not it comes with snare and hardware. Also depends on finish/wrap. If a nice wrap still in good shape with all the goodies, yes, it's worth $150.

Does anybody know about what year the lugs were introduced that you see on so many Taiwanese drums such as the ones from the 90's? Also I was wondering if there is any kind of transition period from the old Japanese sets to the newer Taiwanese ones where maybe the shell and covering might look like an old Japanese but the lugs might be the newer ones for example. Or if you could tell me what the cheaper drums from the 70's were like as far as brand names, lugs, shells, most popular coverings or finishes. I collect drums and I've had or seen alot of old Japanese drums that I think are some 50's and mostly 60's and I come across a million black covered Taiwanese drums with those same lugs I was talking about earlier but there is a time period in between there that I can't quite figure out. I started taking lessons in 1980 on a new CB700 set my teacher had. In other words, I'd like to know any information I can get about cheaper Oriental sets from before the CB700 set I took lessons on, and after the 60's Japanese sets that have a more vintage appeal. I know thats alot of questions but any information you can give me I will appreciate. Thank you .

@grab:

You should use/ start a separate thread for your questions, as it has nothing to do with this thread about Mica drums, ok? ;)

Coming back to Mica drums:

As said always, it would be a great help if you could post some pics. Only from what you said, the price sounds fair.

Sorry to be off topic. I don't get on the computer much and didn't know how this forum worked. I just seen that the last response was in 2009 so I didn't really expect an answer anyway. But as far as Mica Swingline's value, where I live, you could sell a full set in good shape for at least $150.00.

No worries, grab.

If you still wish to receive an answer on your queries, just copy the complete writing and put it into a new thread you can start here, and I'll assure you of replies (excluding myself, as I'm not familier with the lugs in regard). ;)
