Most collectable MIJ kits/snares
Any Pearl or Star made set in rare color's from the 60's.Any set with a 18" bass drum is any finish. But the rarest set to come by is from the 70's Star pre-Tama Vistalite set i have only seem one it was a Morris set in clear and that was 30+ years ago.....Mikey
I have a Star clear acrylic kit that I picked up last year. I'll have to post some photos soon. It is by far the highest quality Japanese set I have owned to date.

Here is another good example. Not sure if it is the BEST example, but certaainly something to consider. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=271127327708&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:enNote the wrap is in excellent condition. The die-cast hoops may or may not be original (time for some research!). Matching wrapped snare. This is one of those 3ply with re-rings I believe. These will sing all day long, be easy to tune, and will have a nice full sound with plenty of fat bottom end. Not sure where you are going, but Pitt may be within your route?? Cool that this club style kit has a matching FT, many are not matching as some did not come with them in those days. Perhaps someone else may be able to shed some light on these "St. George of Hollywood". I honestly am not sure if this is Star or Pearl.....perhaps the BD claws will indicate and maybe the lugs. John
John, The set is made by Pearl mid 60's.Yes this set copyed the Roger's B&B lug's even made them the same way the mounted hole's on the back of the lug's have tab's bent over like you see on the Roger's lugs, they also wrap the spring's in felt.On these set's made by Pearl St.George they made two line's of these drums the plan St. George badge they have the plan rim's on them. Then the St' George Hollywood line was the same drum's but came with Gretsch copy die cast rim's...The set you posted is one of the cleanest set's i have seem in a long time.Iam thinking that i may bid on the set but the question is do i need another set?....Mikey

Thanks Mikey-
Yeah, if I were in the market - that would be a good candidate. The answer to your question is YES, you need another! Seriously, you ARE aloud, so long as you follow the rule - you must sell one of your other keepers in order to make room for it on your 'roster'. BTW - called ya today - no need to call back - got my question answered with another phone call.

John, The St. George set on ebay sold for 237.00...I forgot to bid on it...I just wanted to post a few photo's of the St.George copy's of the Roger's B&B lugs i was talking about..The big lug was for the bass drum only, the small lug was used on mounted and floor toms....Mikey
thanks for those pics. I have had a box of those lugs in storage for 30 years and didnt know what brand they were for. I knew they were some MIJ...ANd I could see they were B&B copies...They are in great condition if anyone needs them, Ill sell them.
That's interesting: the part for the lug fixing screws is bent to inside = the material of the casing can't be die-cast in this case!

Ralf, Yes you are right. But these lugs are the 1st ones made, then they changed them to this cast lug.The cast lugs are rare to fine on a drum today, they only used these for the last year these drums were made......Mikey
