Value of Old Leedy Snare?

Loading...

Greetings from Indy. New to the forum and was hoping I could get some help IDing / valuing my Grandfather's vintage Leedy snare. I tried to do a bit of legwork on my own and came up with the following. I'm a guitar hack not a drummer so I apologize for any lack of detailed info. I have been told however, that this snare might be of particular interest. Thanks in advance for your time and feedback.

-1920's ? 5" x 14"

- 8 lug

- black (actually more wine/purple colored) & Brass

- brass shell / engraved

- brass hrdwr

Please see photos

It looks very similar to the Black Elite I saw a photo of on this site. This drum is an original Indianapolis Leedy and is in great condition (just needs cleaned up). It also is housed in the original hard case which is pretty cool.

Don't let anyone rip you off that is a very nice snare I'd keep it if I were you.

Holy crap ! THAT is an AMAZING OLD DRUM ! It looks absolutely CHERRY ! Complements on keeping it in such condition thru the years.

OK, a high estimate would be here:

$1500 area...but...keep in mind that appraisals (and tag prices at a vintage drum store) are always high...so it is NOT what market value would be, necessarily.

On the other hand, this guy tried to sell his on eFlay and didn't get the $775 he was askin' for...but his is in less than stellar condition:

So you are in there, somewhere, probably closer to the former than the latter....safe to say $1000 or more.

Amazing piece....really.

Tell us about your grandfather...what kinda stuff did he play ???

Thanks for the compliment and for all the good info. My grandfather played a bit of jazz.

Don't sell it keep it. Pass it down through your family if you have kids. It's not worth selling it to a vintage drum collector who owns tons of drums.
