Rogers Marching snare??

Loading...

Did rogers ever make a Dynasonic custom built marching snare? I have a snare drum...with a slot for a harness...a marching head...and the dynasonic logo. I have been researching this drum and found nothing. The biggest thing I don't get is that it is 10x14 instead of the usual size of a dynasonic (5x14). I don't know, maybe you do? Help2

Welcome!

http://www.drumarchive.com/Rogers/

Check catalog pages 28 and 29 (jpg 31) in the 1964 catalog.

Looks like the drum you are describing; a 10x14 Dyna-Sonic Parade drum.

Not a Guru... just interested..

If you go to the thread called "Vintage Holiday Pics" you'll see Santa playing a vintage Rogers parade drum.

Over the years, Rogers made parade drums in 10x14, 12x15, 12x16 sizes, both Powertone and Dynasonic, in tenor or snare configuration. They also made marching basses in Powertone or Dynasonic. All of the Dynasonic parade drums had the clear interiors and the Dyna badge.

They also made parade drums in lesser models along the way...

Heres a rare 6 x 28" bass with snare sized lug casings {never saw this before}. They also made tenor {non snare} and custom ordered.

I always found it amusing that Rogers actually put the dyna badge on a bass drum. I'm in the long process of trying to buy a group of WMP snares and a

bass drum from our local school. Thet're early 60's Cleveland tags. The

paper tag says the snares are called "Yorktown". They measure 14" x 10".

If I can buy them, I'm going to convert two of them into different depths for

drum sets. The main reas I want these, is that they're Rogers and they have 3-ply shells. Would it be a sin for this guy to alter the heighth of his Dyna

shell for set use?? I think using a marching snare in a set configuration looks

rather silly myself.

Well my question is are the 10 x 14 dynasonic marching snares rare? Because I have no use for this and would like to sell it if I can find out more about them

Well not really rare, tho becoming more uncommon. Right now a lot schools are doing cutbacks and music programs usually get hit, leaving a surplus of instruments, some vintage. Here what I did with my Yorktown snare. The early ones are Jasper shells and I always wanted a deep Jasper shelled snare. They didnt make em, so I made this one, based on a Ludwig coliseum snare. No holes were drilled building this drum!

Most people associate Dynasonic with snare drum and is prolly why you would assume that. Heres another Yorktown reconstructed snare..
