Bowing We're not worthy! We're not worthy!!
That is a fantastic looking set! Good job on the restoration!
Absolutely stunning! Very well done Clapping Happy2
If you wouldn't mind, please tell us about how you painted the insides. Did you strip the old paint or just sand it down? Did you brush, spray or roll the paint on? What type of paint did you use? I'll be attempting a similar, but much less complex restoration soon and I'd love to know what you did with yours. Thanks Bowing

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.
Comming from you specialist, that means a lot !
I sanded the interiors with 2 different grids but I didn't go to the bare shell and left some of the blank paint. As you can see on one of the pictures, the BD shell even had some deep nasty scars in them. After sanding, those were filled wit a 2 component filler and sanded down again.
The paint I use is an acrylic odorless satin paint. Once I made the beginners mistake to use a solvent based satin lacquer and the smell was impossible to get rid of. With every kick, the smell was comming through the vent hole.
As I'm hopeless with a spray gun and don't have the room and environment for it, I prefer to roll the paint on in 2 very thin layers.
To get the nicest results, I find it ultimately important not to rush things and take the time for every step
Plugging, 2Xsanding, filling, sanding, filling, 2X sanding, primer, 2Xpaint.
John (Purdie Shuffle) gave me a good woodworking tip to line up the grain of the plugs with the grain of the shell. It'll restore the structural integrity of the grain. No sudden interruptions for vibrations traveling around the shell.
That's definitely something I'll keep in mind for the next project.
Regards
Fantastic job, Stef! Been waiting to see pics of this one all finished up. I voted for the gold sparkle as well. Thought about wrapping my '58 Luddy kit in gold sparkle, but I already have a champagne sparkle kit and wanted something a little different...so I went with blue sparkle. As always, hats off to you my good sir. You have a fine collection of drums.
ive got a good selection of clubdates. but, i ain't finished until i get some gold sparkle clubbies. you did a fantastic job on these. new life into some old negleted orphans. i dig it!! love everything about them. congrats and thanks for sharing..
