DIY cleaning on badly pitted shell?

Loading...

Can it be done without taking somewhere to get sand-blasted, polished, etc?

Not to be cheap, but I have a shell that's terribly pitted (but sounds like magic) that i'm hoping I can do some home remedies to really clean it up.

I've seen some great threads about it, but nothing diy for the most part.

Thanks everyone!

Just use any high quality metal polish on it, it'll be as good as it can be. Just be aware that rubbing the shell is going to flake off any damaged chrome. You won't hurt it. It'll look better after polishing than it does now.

John how did you get the chrome off your supra with the tube lugs you showed in poppy's thread "ugliest supra?"

Plating shop! I paid to have the shell stripped, the raw aluminum highly polished and then clear-coated. $125.00 Well worth it. This one will never pit or flake again.

Love that snare Purdie! That was one of the threads I was thinking about..

OK, so start with the metal polish, damaged chrome with flake off. Any recommendations on certain rags/cloths to use? I obviously don't want to use anything that'll hurt it.

Thanks!
