From calfskin

I have been looking at listings from all of the above mentioned accounts over the years and have always been suspicious of them.-----but unfortunately , that is the nature of ebay. The problem is, ebay is the problem, not sleazy sellers. Ebay is making ,millions and millions of dollars by supporting and allowing sellers, such as this to continue using their system. I have had a lot of discussions with ebay about their lack of attention to the errant behaviour on the part of sellers and there are always excuses or comments like " I will bring this issue up at the next policy meeting" or " I'm sorry you feel that way" or " That's the first I've heard of that problem" or " We are investigating ,making some changes" or " Sometimes it takes us a little while to implement improvements" . Ebay gets a lot of money from this guy. He has to be really, really, really bad to get them to notice his behaviour and to stop allowing him to use their system for mutual profit. Ebay, now ,once again, allows phone contact. They have vacilated over this, many times over the years but it seems that for a while at least , they are at least a little serious about entertaining people with issues, in a direct way So, all of you ---and it seems that there are a lot, who are livid about Mr. Aronson's activities on ebay; COMPLAIN----make sure it is a legitimate complaint , and preferably within the past 45 days---otherwise they won't do anything( policy)---but maybe if there is enough???. The best way of doing this, is file some violation in a listing( look for "report this item")---something like a fake item , or if you've bought something recently that was lousy, file about that, or excessive shipping charges----anything that works. You can do it electronically or by phone. If Mr. Aronson is as bad as he is claimed to be , then that is the best way of shutting him down. Ebay doesn't really do anything ,until the evidence becomes overwhelming. I'm sure there are enough of you out there, seriously bothered enough to go to the source.

+1^.Ebay facilitates this type of business model by turning a blind eye more times that not toward the higher volume sellers. These humanouds are just modernday highway men,who use computers instead of guns. That in and of itself reveals all you need to know about the integrity of some of these sellers. At least a highway man had the bawls to look you in the eye,as he was relieving you of your valuables.

I won't buy from Lee county music et all, simply because most of the time, they strip pieces of history, inflate the price to an unreasonable amount and just sell to the highest bidder for the maximum profit. No reguard is ever given to the fact that there is also a responsibility attached to posessing vintage instruments.

In the mean time,I think it's important that forums like this expose these humanoid sellers for what they are,and encourage all who read these posts to avoid buying from them, and to report any indescretion in a transaction .Soap Box

The subject of this thread has been around a long time. He went under his real name years ago, and became a pariah. He then seemed to disappear for a while. As eBay became bigger and bigger as a source of drum stuff, those other ids began showing up. The practice of destroying drums for parts caught the attention of the vintage community, and it was just a matter of time before it became clear that a number of the ids were linked to one person, and that the person was J.A.

I asked who J.A. was because several members on the forum speak of him as if they know him personally. I just thought that a little background information would be relavent. I guess his only claim to fame is demolishing and selling drums. I guess I was hoping that there was more to the story.

I filed a mail fraud complaint against him once. It was only after the claim was filed that I received my stuff.

There is more to the story. A long history of shady dealings with a LOT of people.

He had a mail order site called Amanda's Texas Underground or ATU for short. I never dealt with him but he did have a Camco drum I was interested in at one time. I've been told he would sell the same drum numerous times however only one of those buyers would actually receive the drum.

Who is Jonas Aronson? I am no authority, but can shed some understanding. Jonas was in Annapolis in the nineties when Rich King (still here) was providing vintage drums to Charlie Watts and others. Rick was a go to guy for hard to find drums for movies, stars, etc. At one point Rich and Jonas were associated or worked together. How closely I cannot say. Music stores were still local shops then.

Jonas' company was Amanda's Texas Underground (ATU) and if you remember the monthly vintage drum sheets in the mail, you would know them. Jonas also had a storefront in Annapolis (early nineties). I bought from and traded with him and never had a unresolved problem. I lost track when he moved to Nashville (Mid-nineties). This was all pre-eBay when we all depended on those white sheets for older sets, parts, orphans, or just dreaming.

I do remember that when drummers wanted that amber vistalite "Bonham" kit or a 14x14 club date FT in champagne sparkle, there were few other available options, but to call a guy like Jonas. Sorry to hear so many who feel ripped off these days. As always on eBay Caveat Emptor!
