Some unrecognized drums, help me!

Basista,

I think you are making the right move. If you want a cheap kit to learn on and can get it for the price you mentioned, there is nothing wrong with that. You would have a few extra project drums for fun to work on and sell as a bonus. You won't get much for them though. Otherwise, walk away. There are some monster deals out there if you are patient.

I would think that in Poland, there must be a lot of German stuff around---certainly a lot of Tacton , if not Sonor, Rimmel, Trixon or Tromsa. Any of those would be far better choices than the stuff you are showing for 900zl and some of it for no more zl than that. I bought a Sonor teardrop kit out of Poland for a little over 400.00 and I certainly have seen Tacton around there for much less. Any of those drums will likely increase in value, rather than decline , like the MIJ stuff will.

I know it is hard not to but don't get wooed by the fact that there are cymbals and hardware included. Most often, these items are inferior or broken and the extra bulk isn't a bargain. It might be better to get some decent drums and shop for some decent cymbals separately.

Am I missing something regarding the off-white drums? The tom mounts and spurs are not any Tama parts I have ever seen.I'm thinking they are mid-eighties Tama Taiwan knockoffs made of the super splintery variety of luan, and including the "Insta-strip"(pat.pdg.) pot metal hardware. They remind me more of Gretsh Blackhawks than Imperialstars. And I have plenty of experience with those, having had students in the 80's with those drums.

I think I might have been the first (or one of the first) to suggest Tama. Reason being - is the triangular shaped Tom mounting hardware (post top), though I question whether that is compatible considering the shape of the piece under it. Also, Rogers is the only other company who used lugs that shaped (as far as I know) and there is no other sign of Rogers in that pic. Speaking of PICS......this would really help, though I understand that this potential buyer/thread starter here has not been there and is using pics from the seller.

The ten lugs hints at some potential value there, but can not be a conclusive factor, unless it is indeed a Tama and they want to re-wrap (who likes a flat white set like that?) I suggested the re-wrapping possibility because those early Tamas have been raved about in forums everywhere.

Next, I just noticed that the deep blue BD is badged Bolero by Star (read the post) and that hints at value as those have alot of character, but the only way to capitalize on that is if, by chance, it has been wrapped or painted blue, and the matching white satin (or whatever it is) is matching and found underneath. Even with missing parts, that would be a find.

But at the end of the day, if the buyer is not able (or willing) to invest the time/gas money to go see them, an affirmative conclusion can not be reached and buying them can not be recommended unless they can be had for cheap (100-125).

I hope this has answered your Tama questions (and more) as that is the extent of my Tama knowledge considering the lack of better picks. I suppose it could be a Blackhawk - another question, is whether any Tama used those posts (that enter the shell) as opposed to the L-shaped ones like the Luddys.

Interesting thread here - might all the fun actually be a bit spoiled by better pics!

WAIT - Eureka - I've got it!!!!!!!! They are 1980s Bullwinkles!!!! The front head makes it oh so obvious!!!

(not going to sign this time - for obvious reasons - habit though!)

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Here, in Poland, for these money, you can have :http://allegro.pl/perkusja-i2816128945.html

This is a last version of wellknown german TACTON ---80-90's (except snare) with original hardware. Hi-hat pedal is uncomfortable a bit due to it high angle and also its heel is cracks sometimes in axle zone. Set is very similar to Sonors such as a Phonic, Sonorlite, etc and not worse them on sound.

Well, now all is explained.I vaguely recall seeing a posting many moons ago of a hair-band dimension set with those Tama-ish lugs which was indeed a Tacton.Six-lug floor tom, those odd set screws on the leg and tom mounts did not add up.We really need some of those catalog pages for our database.Maybe Father Christmas will send some!Burger Kin
