Some unrecognized drums, help me!

Loading...

Hi. I'm from Poland. I need some help from you, to recognize these drums.

Im just got an offer of buying drums for a 900 zloty, which is like 290$. The set includes two types of drums.

One suede (or beige), or just bright yellow coloured set, without any logo, including

- bass drum, with Mapex drumhead, and three Tom-mount holes, which is untypical,

- two tom-toms, with Mapex drumhead,

- floor tom, also with Mapex drumhead.

Second set is unmarked light blue coloured, and it include's

- two tom-toms, with Remo drumhead,

- one floor tom, Remo drumhead.

There's also depp blue bass drum from other set, marked "Bollero", and Star, which I already recognized, as a probably made in 1970-1980, with low value. It has Remo's drumhead.

There's also full set of cymbals of Paiste 200, made in West Germany (probably 1985-1990), I mean splash, crash, hihat, and ride.

There's also lots of hardware, mostly damaged, and uncompleted, like cymbals stand, etc. For example, there's literally half of snare's stand (which has mark Mapex). Other's stands don't have any logo.

And of course snare drum, also unmarked. At the end, there's pulp cowbell, with unusual look.

The thing is, that I need to know what drums is it. Any help would be highly appreciated. Sorry for my english skills. And also- are these drums worh 290$?

There's some pictures of it :

I see nothing of any value in these pictures. You should be able to do far better for the money. Run away!

Your English is far and away better than my...well any other language actually! Well done I say. No need to apologize for a second language.

I think the question that we would need answered is what is the going rate in Poland for an average, cheap, made in Japan stencil kit and what would you like to accomplish with these? Over here in the states a complete kit could run from $100 (and sometimes less) to maybe $300. I see guys pay more, but other than for the sake of nostalgia, it is probably not a good deal when that high.

There is a lot of gear there for $290 US. If you are looking for something to experiment with and develop some restoration skills this might be OK. If you are looking for resale value, maybe not. If you are looking for a quality vintage kit, then look elsewhere.

Good luck to you sir. The experts will chime in regarding what brand these are.

I believe your off-white kit there is made by Tama. Meanwhile, the other kit (missing the BD) would be more of a find in my opinion. I never liked flat white drums and though the BD has 10 lugs, I would not pick it up, unless I intended to re-wrap. I say that because some people have indicated that the older Tama intermediate lines are GREAT drums. I can testify as my friend has one (early 80 Swingstar I believe).

Yeah, closer-up pics would be needed. All the mounting and lugs, including BD and FT legs/mounts.

The Paiste 200s are nothing to write home about. I recall they are BRASS and not made from the bronze composition that most other Paistes are. I have some 200 HHs and they do not sound good at all compared to the other Paistes I have.

Offer $125.....and walk away if they don't take it. They will likely catch you before you leave. If not - not a great score, unless you have done some conclusive research on the Tama Swingstar possibility and want to re-wrap. Then the better score is the other drums - which would require a BD score - which is problematic itself.

Honestly - for that, 125 should take it. Possibility of a sell off to re-coup some of that.

First of all, thanks for all responses. This is really great comunnity :)

Here, in Poland, for these money, you can have :

http://allegro.pl/perkusja-i2816128945.html

or

http://tablica.pl/oferta/perkusja-amati-hi-hat-i-stopa-yamaha-ID1OVjl.html

General idea of buying that kit for 290$ was thought, that this is valuable and repairable set. I thought I'll give these money, and gain much more later, after renovation. The other thing is that I just need some drums to play in home.

I'm bass player, and guitarist, but also I wanted to play drums. So these 290 dollars were dilemma. I wasn't sure what's better - drums, or just better amp for my bass guitar, etc.

I laughed :). But seriously, sorry for these photos. They are send to me from saler, and I have no possibility now to get better quality and look.

In sum. This is probably Tama kit, worth 100-120$, which repairing won't increase the value. So if I fail to negotiate 100 $, I won't buy it.
