What should I do vistalite experts?

Loading...

Ok so I have the option to trade some late 80's Tama Swingstars for a 70's Ludwig Vistalite kit. Only thing is, it has some severe cracking. At the end of the day I'll take a Luddy over an 80's Tama, but my question is should I bother? Will they still sound good with all these cracks. Can I fix them? I looked on vistalitedrums.com about repairsIf someone could tell me what to do that would be great.

Wow... Green Vistalites, very sought after. Would love to have those. Seem to be a lot of positive comments on repairing cracks. Don't have any advise different that a google search for "reparing cracked vistalites" will provide. Best of luck... nice find!

Beau,

Looks like some serious cracks to me... and obviously a previous owner used some sort of "mechanical" fix at some point on the BD!

In all of my drum experience, I think I've had one vistalite tom in my hands. Without taking the time to do a search, I do think there have been some members on here who have had success with vistalite crack repairs...

Good luck!

Bill

BTW -- will be up your way in a couple of weeks. My youngest son is getting married Dec. 1 in Lawrence.

Ya, it's that whole would I rather have a cracked kit or no kit at all. I always vote cracked/broken kit :D Also, let me know of any parts you might need that I might have so we can meet up. Congrats to your son btw! Hope it's a beautiful winter day!

If you trade your Tama drums for these,..it wont be long before chunks start falling off the vista`s and you`ll be stuck with drum trim. Translated to no kit at all !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

How big is the Tama kit (sizes-color) and aprox value? The cracks look like they have been repaired or attempted repair no? If your comfortable with doing the fixes and feel it's a good trade $$$ wise green Vistas are awesome!! I'd love to have a set of these someday. Good luck and which ever path you choose keep us updated. :)

It's a late 80's silver mist Tama Swingstar kit 12-13-16-18-22-24 with a steel snare. I couldn't sell this kit for $150 locally! Man I'll admit...I'm super bummed, I was hoping for some more positive comments about the cracks. Not saying you all are doing it on purpose, I just had high hopes! I don't care at all what they look like as long as they sound good. Green vistas are hard to find for cheap and it has a matching snare. UGH the drum collectors life!

When it comes to vistalites, there are 'good cracks' (along the seams) and 'bad cracks' (cracks out on the shell or by lugs or hardware,) those drums have -Bad Cracks-!

Oddball is correct, won't be long before that kit takes another hit and shatters into a thousand pieces. Bad shells, *bad trade if you do it. (*Good for the other guy, bad for you!)

Pass on this one. Way too many serious problems.

John

Too many great drums to list here!
