Here's another offer i received, an Austin era Fibes kit in a blue laquer finish, 10,14,20. I love Fibes drums, good trade?
Fibes Drums
that kits a nice kit. love that color. fibes is not around anymore and their stuff is sought after. especially the "austin" years in my opinion.
there was a amber fibes kit at a store i used to work at in the 90's. it sounded and looked so good. i should of got it.
depending on the condition of both kits, even though i'm a ludwig guy i would probibly trade.
Man-O-man, I just love those FIBES drums! Especially that color... it's way too cool!!! Blue Laquer. Austin FIBES kits are getting harder and harder to find.
Althought, I'm a Gretsch dude... I own a really mint Austin FIBES 18/12/14 jazz kit with the matching wooden snare. My kit is aqua sparkle wrap but, I wish they were laquer...
But basically, I will NEVER trade my FIBES for any other kit. I'm keeping mine... and besides my FIBES kit is the only new jazz kit, I own.
The blue laquer kits are some really nice looking drums... ENJOY them... and trust me when, I say this... THEY SOUND GOOD!
Very nice! I'm clueless about Fibes. They were acrylic drums in 70s and 80s, then got into wood in 90s? The wood drums are more sought after than the acrylic?
They were bought by Tommy Robertson who owns a drum shop in Austin back in 94, I believe he used Jasper shells and also made acrylic drums. His drum shop is still there, but I believe you can only get Fibes drums on special order. I bought a kit from him years ago that had a 12,14,20,14 and our soundman at the time said it was the best kick he had ever heard. The drums were very well made and I was told by someone who knew Tommy well, that he used a special process on cutting the bearing edges on the kick. I don't know what he does, but it works well.

The originals were both acrylic and fiberglass. I have a fiberglass kit, very warm similar to maple in tone but with tons of volume! When Corder bought Fibes he saw all the fiberglass dust and decided to only do wood, same with Darwin. In 1994 when Tommy bought Darwin and the name and put the two back together again he brought back fiberglass but only as a snare drum option.

I know I shouldn't but I covet your Fibes set Osahead2.
I have a really nice Fibes snare that I bought back in the 90's.
Love it. x-mas3
I recently had a chance to purchase a Bass and Floor clear versalite Fibes with Ludwig toms but I passed. Thought parts may be an issue. ?Was that a mistake?
