LAte 60's Pearl Super COS or COB Snare?

Loading...

Look what I just bought for US$49.80 locally!

I have seen worse snares come up better after a thorough restoration but I do think it will be some work.

Looks to me to be the same snare as shown in the Pearl 1966 catalog here

Note the Pearl 1960's script badge in image 2.

Anyone got one of these and can report on the sound etc?

and now there's another, if more expensive one for sale. I think it'll be chrome over steel and that badge dates it to early/mid 60s like you say. Good score.

Hey Andrew,

Im wrapt. $60 nz is fair to pay for that snare.

There cant be a huge amount of these left in NZ.

Needless to say Autosol and I are spending some time together again.

Did I see you you had success with soaking trods etc in white vinegar to remove rust?

I note another post mentioned WD40 which I will try.

Yes, White vinegar works well. I used to use WD-40 but the vinegar works well and is heaps cheaper and not greasy. I let them soak for a couple of days then they clean up nicely.

See how you go with just autosol first maybe. The foil supposedly doesn't scratch the chrome but I'd still try other methods first. I used it on my hoops but they were really bad

Some others here may have suggestions too of course. Dawn dish soap is a popular one but we don't get it here unfortunately.

The badge on the snare would date it from about 1963 to mid 67..The shell is C.O.S. Pearl never made this snare in a C.O.B. shell..White Vinegar for T-rods and rims.Shell clean up with Dawn soap would be the best to use but i know you dont have it were you live...I do have the parts that you need will email you later today if you like i can send you a bottle of Dawn soap along with the parts.....Mikey
