My current gig ... I carry my throne, cymbals, and stick bag in my MINI Cooper. It's tight, but they fit.
Smallest car to fit a drum set
My wife picked me up at the brake shop in her Miata a couple days ago and the guy working at the counter says.. "Hey I had a Miata, loved that car" followed by... "I was drummer and hauled my drum set in it" so I said, "4 piece with an 18" bass drum?" and he says no.. "5 piece with a 22" bass drum!"
That would be tight... especially with the top up!Car Driving2

Now we know why all these vintage kits are beat to death! Excited
I always just bought a vehicle that my gear fit in nicely in their cases. Pick up trucks with toppers or vans.
Very proud owner of a new Blaemire Snare 6.5 x 14 made by Jerry Jenkins "Drumjinx"
In 82/83 I had a Ford Pinto and hauled a 5 piece w/stands.
My 67' Jet outfit, travelled in style.. in the back seat of my 67' VW Beetle..
It's been Kombis,Vans & SUV's since then though..

Smallest thing I ever owned was a 99 Subaru Forester. Same size as a 'small' station wagon, but man, when I knocked the back seats down, for gigs, I could fit my kit, 13, 16, 22 in hard cases, plus a soft snare case, hard cymbal case, hard trap case (with the stands and hi-hat inside,) and my Roc & Soc. Then I'd pick up the bass player and get him and his axe case (old Fender J-bass) in comfortably. Tons of room in that little sucker. It was like Dr. Who's Tardis, looks small outside, huge inside.

1975 Chevy Nova. Not the tiniest car, but considering I was able to stuff a double-bass, 8 piece Rogers set into it was an amazing demonstration of Tetrus ability. Of course, the advantage I had was this Nova was the rare hatchback version. Back seat folded down into one long cargo bed.

I have had good luck with Honda's. But most of my drums are not as deep as some contemporary dimensions.
Late 70's Honda Accord hatchback could take my four piece with room to spare. (24x14 , 13, 14).
Late 80's 4 door Civic was equally drum friendly.
Honda made big doors. Some "larger" cars I tried at the time had much smaller door frames, and couldn't take a 24" bass drum no matter how much room there was inside.
Currently using a 99 Volvo V70 wagon. It's fine, but not as efficient in its use of space as those old Hondas.
