Picked up a 20" trans stamp.

My son Dan and I went to our local Sam Ash which tends to have a nice supply of vintage A's. We found a very nice 20" trans stamp. The lathing and hammering and bell shape look older to me than the other 20" trans bop ride we have. That one is probably from the early '50s. I'm guessing this one is from the mid-late '40's. I'll try to put up some pictures and a sound file soon. The best part was that it was only $134. I know prices are soft right now, but I thought this was a good deal. Its worth every penny.

Between the two of us we have around 25 rides and crash/rides, but my son loves this cymbal so much it's now become one of his "go to" main gigging rides along with a Istanbul K 20" new new stamp, a 22" KCon MTH, and a '50's A large stamp.

Nice score! It's incredible how many Trans stamps are amazing cymbals. A great era of cymbal making.

It's easy to tell if it's from the '40s - the stamp will have vertical lines going through the letters, most notably in the "Z":

Hmm! I did not know that. The reference documentation I have is an old primer on vintage A's that Drumaholoc had posted on Cymbalholic years ago. I dont think there was a mention of the vertical lines. How did you determine that. Obviously, I missed something and I'm behind the times.

Like almost everything I know about cymbals, I learned it from Drumaholic! Maybe he'll chime in. I think there are 4 (maybe 5?) versions of the Trans Stamp, and the '40s version is the most rare.

This one's the top of a pair of 13 inch hats of mine that Drumaholic ID'd forus a couple of years ago as a late 40s stamp.

I notice in both pictures, the top stroke of the Z is wider at the end, and part of the diagonal stroke is also wider. Later trans stamps don't seem to have that characteristic.
