One of the guys where I work found out I play drums and asked if I offer lessons, I told him I didn't but would be happy to show him a few things.
We talked some more about drums and he then told me his friend had just text him saying did he is leaving to live in Australia and was going to throw his drums out.
I told him, 'if he's going to throw them away I'll have them – if you don't want them'. He said he didn't want or need another set. A few weeks passed and yesterday he brought them in to work for me. Turns out to be a rather neglected 70's MIJ Arai or Aria kit in either faded gold sparkle or ginger aled
silver sparkle. Gonna take a bit of work but they actually sound surprisingly good.
Bass is 20", floor 16" and rack 13" – snare has no badge but looks of same era so maybe native to kit? Came with a bunch of stands, throne, Pacific double pedal and some not bad cymbals. A nice 20" Formula 602 ride, 18" 50's A factory sizzle which has multiple cracks and a hunk missing around center hole but still sounds great, a 14" old A hi hat and a couple of no cheaper line 14" cymbals.
I'm stoked, can't believe he was gonna throw them away! I'm building a snare drum for the guy at work, as a thank you. Pics below.
