This is my son's first kit.
12/13/14/16/20. Pin's/g1's, all tuned wide open.
Sound like a dream.
Hand bursted with water based stain topped with 12 coats of laquer.
A novel idea... and an excellent job! I hope your son is enjoying them!
Nice job, that finish looks fantastic.

Labor of love. I am sure that took a long time!
Beutiful set.. I like it Mallet Player2
Very innovative way to make vertical grain luan look like expensive custom drums. Stain must have been sprayed on while rotating the drums?
All the yellow and red was applied and blended by hand with a piece of balled up terry towel. Took about 5 or 6 coats to get right.
Then 2 coats of dewaxed shellac to seal it all in.
Only the black lacquer was sprayed.
Finally, the 12 coats of clear lacquer were sprayed with 24 hr between coats.
Wet sanding started on third coat at 400 grit and continued through 600/800/1000...until 2500 grit(the secret to a great finish)
After they were left for a week to cure, they were hand rubbed with buffing compound and then polishing compound.
Finally I applied 6 or 8 coats of Turtle wax.
Wasn't a quick or easy job but I'm totally happy with the results.
My Sonors will be next.
