Question regarding 'Alejian' and 'Zenjian' cymbals

Loading...

Hi,

I got a change to own a pair of 12" hi-hats (or crashes) of 'Alejian', 'Zenjian.

In the Cymbal book, they mention that these cymbals were made in the 1930's and 1940's for Leedy.

I wanted to get your opinions regarding how much they worth.

They don't have any cracks or keyholes - just the "regular" old cymbals patina.

Any opinion would be highly appreciated!

Hey Tommy

I have a few of those dating back from the 20's on a vintage set that I own made by Leedy. Worth ; In reality nothing other than to a collector in need of them and you also find them every so offend on E bay very Cheap. Were the Value lye's is in the drums. Zenjian cymbal's large sizes 18-20 if can find are worth a few bucks but again to the collector or the vintage drum player.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

Yup - they are small (12"), so I figured out that they don't worth that much.

Thanks again!

What I'm reading is that you have a pair of hi-hats-----one of which is a Zenjian and the other an Alejian? If this is true -----one was made for Leedy ,the other for Slingerland. They were offered as cheaper alternatives, to Zildjian by the respective companies----kind of as house brands. Although, they were made by A.Zildjian , they were supposed to be seconds. All of the Alejians , I have come across were super thin, like a razor blade. -----most were warped a bit----maybe that's why they were seconds. These are both pretty interesting cymbals----I have some Alejians that I really like. The fact that you don't have a matched pair would likely depress their value some.

The one thing about them is they are made in an old school style. Fully hand hammered, top and bottom, so they are in that category of rareness. There are only so many of those around anymore.

Yeah - that's true - one is Alejian and the other one is Zenjian - they are both 12" and I want to use them as crash/splash - cos as you said, they are paper thin and they sound great as crash/splash.

You can see by the text fonts of 'Alejian' and 'Zenjian' that they are the 20's 30's of Zildjian, the "J" is round, just like the 1st stamps of Zildjian.

I think that since they are pretty common - I will just use them and not try to sell, as they probably don't worth much these days...

Thanks for the info!
