HACKCO de Lux MIJ 8x12 tom

I picked this up yesterday at a local secondhand store.

Has anyone here ever owned or seen a Hackco drum?

I noticed the Drums Only! stamp on the inside. That was Ray Ayotte's drum store in Vancouver (opened up in the early 70's). I sent a photo to him and he does remember the drums but said they were a 'one off' model and they were not around very long from what he remember.

Kind of cool badge and the finish is in very good shape and appears to be original.

The drum fits right onto the rail mount on my later 50's Gretsch kit. It's there now and I've been playing it today. Not bad for $25......I think it likes its new home.

Damn, that's a wicked wrap! I bet that was a handsome kit, especially with the Club Date lugs...

Ditto, ditto, and again. That wrap is sweeter than sugar.

The wrap IS sweet - thanks.

The Round Badge (the other RB) is pretty nice too....giving Gretsch a run for their money haha.

This one is strange and very cool!

I'm wondering about the symbolic character of the 'H', especially the first line:

is it

- a factory funnel with smoke?

- Or a pistol spitting three bullits?

- Or a man's **** spitting *****? (G-rated version ;))

Hmmmm

Anyway, hope that member OsakaBop chimes in and helps to clarify the origin of this one.

Ralf, I think it's a guy coughing... I mean with a name like HACKCO, the drum was obviously made for folks that smoke three or four packs of unfiltered Camel's everyday...

I have a Japanese drummer friend spreading the word and photo of this drum badge to folks in Japan - hopefully someone will recognize it.

Gary, I did some lookng around on this drum. The mount is what Yamaha used in the late 60's on the Rogers-360 drums. The washers inside the shell were also found on Star made drums also the round badge shape. The lugs look like copy's of Premeir lugs of the 60's...With all that said i think the drum was made by Star sometime is the late 60's or should i say piece together by Star and sold inder the Hackco name. Most likey sold in england as a copy of Premier? Is the drum a 5 lug drum?....Mikey

Hmm...Is the grain on that tom running vertically?

Just a drummer who loves all things about vintage drums! Nothing more, nothing less.
