Zildjian 16" hats

Loading...

I had these out on the stand tonight and I thought I would share a couple pics. I think these are early 50`s. The original owner told me that he bought them new in 52. Super thin ones. The patina just looks beautiful to me.

Very cool. I would love to play them.

I bet they sound like the bee's knees as indivdual crashes, too!

Those look great and are pretty rare in that size.

Also that info about the year of purchase is important to me personally for my research. I had that type IV trademark pegged at '52 to '53. It's nice to get some confirmation on that.

Bill, here is a pic from the 20" that was bought at with the hats. BTW, I just brought home a new set of scales and I weighed the hats and the 20". The 20 is thin and weighs 1687 G`s, the hats weigh 955 and 982 G`s.

Same vintage for the 20" as on the hats.

And man, that's a nice weight on that 20", and ditto for the hats. You scored very nicely.

I bet those are SWEET!

I have toyed with the idea of 14 or 15" paper thin crash and medium thin crashes as hi-hats myself...

I run mainly with 14" new beats, but I run them upside-down, so the heavy cymbal is on top. Stick definition is great, open hat sound is identical, and stick rebound (for doubles and fast singles) is WAY better- and very articulate.

I also use (on the rare live occasion) 15" field cymbals as hats. These are both heavy and even have the grommets in the centers! I drilled a couple 1/4 inch holes in the bell of the bottom cymbal and these sound quite good as well, but very LOUD.

I have some other crazy ideas for hi hats I want to try as well....
