Carlton and Hayman Drums

Loading...

Hi everyone, i'm new here.

Was hoping someone could give me some information on the drum kits that I have recently gotten.

The first one is a Hayman Vibrsonic (Dallas Arbiter London) Kit in sparkle blue.

And the second one is Carlton Dallas London Kit in a deep blue finish.

I have no idea about vintage drums, any information people could give me on them would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Alan

Ebay is the place. Saw a Carlton snare that went for less than $100.00, I would assume that since they were a British company, that they were more popular on the other side of the pond. Pretty obvious that they "borrowed" the lug design from Camco.

I'd hold it if you're looking to sell, market on Ebay is way down.....

I will take a stab at this, but the history is convoluted, and I am drawing on my feeble memory. Please only use the dates as suggestions, not verified.

Both companies are British.

Carlton goes back to the '30's.

Dallas were owners for a fair stretch of the Carlton story.

Dallas at some point in the '60's developed business relations with Ivor Arbiter, hence Dallas/Arbiter.

Dallas/Arbiter founded the Hayman drum company which was apparently named after one of the Dallas employees in the drum factory. Go figure, but for a bit of luck Haymans could have been Nigels or Throckbottoms, etc.

Arbiter went on to the Autotune project sometime in the 70's.

Anywho, Carlton had a solid pro reputation in the Danceband world. They also held a dominant role for a while in pipe band drums. Bobby Graham used them all to death in the UK studios and talked about his kit in a recent Classic Drummer mag. There are some pics on his website:
