I think we misunderestimate the effect Dubya has had on our language. LoLoLoLo

anyway, good to see more from Michael Paiste! He does such good work but he doesn't pop up on the forums often

Without the "before" files, it is a little hard to know what happened here but I can tell you this: That is one SERIOUSLY cool thing to be able to do out in one's garage! "Honey, I am going out to mow the lawn, then change the oil in the Chevy. After that I think I'll lathe some cymbals."

I had the late Mike Skiba "modify" a 22" second generation SABIAN HH heavy ride. Despite his lathing and hammering it changed the essential character of the cymbal very little.

Never play it the same way once.

It depends on how much material is removed. If you take half the cymbal`s weight off, it`ll morph into something completely different. If you remove little,..you might get slight changes !!

It`s a drum,.....Hit It !!

That first one, the 22" went from 3600 grams to 2410 grams! The before and after weights are shown in the lower left hand corner of the video at the beginning of each demo.

He makes his own creations too:

Very cool. Your cymbals sound great! Great playing too. Those cymbals in the link you posted are gorgeous.

Lathing isn't just taking weight off, but also manipulating the taper, depending on where along the cymbal you remove material. That can cause a big difference in the way a cymbal sounds and feels. The sound clips sound nice, BTW.
