My 22" 505 Heavy Ride is still my "go-to" ride. I also have an 18" Heavy ride that I use when the gig calls for it....I keep my 18" Sound Creation Dark Ride for studio work...but live....I always use a 505 ride...

I love 505's.....I also have 14" hats, a 16 crash (just turned it into an "O-zone" crash) & a 10" splash....they're nice...but nothing beats the rides IMHO....

I have a 20in 505 Ride that I kept because I thought it sounded more pretty than a Zildjian from the 70s that I had. It certainly has nice bright beauty to it, though honestly, I wish the bell was a bit more loud and articulate - it is also a bit difficult to play for some reason. But the rest of the cymbal I love.

Does anyone else have the same frustration with the 505 bells?

I am using 404 crashes (black label) and am eager to hear a recording that I cut last week....needs a bit of mixing. Just a demo - but eager to hear how good the 404s will sound.

BTW, love my 400 HHs Actually the trick is to use it with a heavy bottom (of any kind), especially the soundedge, mastersound, soundwave, etc.

can you compare them to a Zild or Sab cynbal??

I haven't bumped the post in a while, but I've got two 505s for sale. An 18" Ride and an 18" China. $75 each. They sound fantastic. Just in case anybody's interested.

They sound like a Paiste 2002, just slightly less refined.

Very cutting as are all B8 cymbals.

505z r great cymbals. Still have all mine from the 80's. 20" hr, 14hh,14,15,16c.and 18china . Also have some 3000z and 2002's. 75.00 Is a steal if their in good condition.

I sold my 505 18" China and Ride along with a K 14" Fast Crash for $75 each. The recipient seemed well-pleased, and I was glad to see some of my favorite cymbals go to a good home.

I have the 20" med ride and i keep pulling it out of the cymbal bag. Its sweet and not over powering, almost a gentle ride. I love the way it sounds on recordings. That said, i still play my old Zildjys, but they cost me a lot of money and the 505 did,nt. I,d love to find a 16 or 18 crash though.

@drummerjohn. Im with you on the Bell (20 reg ride) love the body but wish the bell was a little stronger. but that may hold true for some older 602's and 2002's also. makes a great pop or general purpose ride even a little jazzy.

The 20" heavy ride is the answer to everything you could want in a bell or firmer stick feel compared to the regular ride. I have both and prefer the heavy almost always. I agree with Waltondrummer as to it being my go-to gig ride as well.
