I cannot express in words just how incredibly happy I am for you. That is so COOL that you were blessed to this degree. My wife loved this story, too. Excellent excellent excellent thread.

@Rogersling

The funny thing is, my wife pointed this kit out to me on CL.

Apparently she's listened to me yap about drums SO much, when she saw the brass keystone badge she said...."honey, look at these....aren't these the ones you like!?" :D

So, she definately gets MAD street cred for that!! haha

When I finish the clean-up I'll probably use them for one gig just to show them off, and then pass them on to someone who will really enjoy them and give them a great home.

Thanks again for all the replies! Today I'll be working on the FT and post pics if anyones intrested...

From beef

Yep, All green sparkle, covered in black contact paper for the last 30yrs.Got them from the original owner who's parents bought them for him when he was a kid in the late 60's. He wrapped them beacuse he was embarressed to have a green sparkle kit in the 80's. HA!

Beef,

I'm not so ashamed to admit that I did the exact same thing to a double bass WMP orphan stencil kit in 1974... black contact paper over the shells and didn't reinstall the resonant lugs for that concert tom look so popular at the time. It was just what we did back then.

While you're scrubbing the adhesive off those beauties and cursing the original owner, remember that his cheap recover job saved that green sparkle from 30 years of UV fade. Congrats on a great find!

Encountered a few issues, it's no museum piece. All in all very cool kit.

Gonna try and sell locally, but if anyone's intrested, don't be shy.

Thanks for looking!

A few issues? Interesting, b/c it looks like it walked out of a drum shop this morning! Awesome find and nice clean up.

When I was 12 years old (1974) my first kit was a Ludwig black diamond pearl 4 peice. I hated the wrap and decided at one point to "preserve" the drums with blue contact paper. So, be on the look out for a crappy blue Ludwig kit most likely from the 60's because mom and dad bought it used. By the way, I use wood veneer now, stepped it up a little bit.

COngrats on the kit, I do not see any issues, its a beauty!
