Does this look like light blue pearl?

Dude, that's a "hollow logo" Zildjian. Even better! Those date from 1977-1983. Hollow logos are usually very nice sounding!

Thank you, you just taught me something new.

Someone else will chime in on the drums but I can tell you that is a 70's hi-hat stand. I had one just like it from the mid 70's. Very attractive kit by the way.

Spot on on the hihat stand. That was Pearl's top-of-the-line stand from the mid to late 70s. I'm still using mine!

JC, man I'm not sure how I missed this thread up 'til now -- this was a GREAT find! I agree you got $300 worth easy. And, for what it's worth, I go along with the idea this is a late 60s/early 70s kit. A nice edition to your growing collection -- how's the ROP set? Wasn't that one Pearl of about the same era?

Hey Bill nice to hear from you. I sold those lime green drums for 300 and turned around and bought these jazzers. My rop Presidents are doing fine, I have them set up and have been playing them for the last month or so, just love them. I think you are correct that these modern jazz are the same time period, when I first saw the CL add I was sure they were Presidents but I was wrong. You wouldnt belive how nice these are in person, im "jazzed".

And they sound great too! My first jazz kit.

Thanks, JC

Isn't just eveything about the hardware (lugs, etc.) just about the same on both sets? I had forgotten your ROP was a Pearl President, but compare the badges... aren't they basically the same style, too? When I first saw your pics of this blue set, I thought that badge looked very similar to the President badge (even though it does look like a sticker -- is it?).

It makes me wonder if Pearl had some sort of distribution deal with an instrument/music company and made this "brand" just for them. They did do that (especially in the 60s, Mikey777 knows all about that!). I hadn't seen this label before. Are they wood shells... or do they happen to be phenolic?

Just wonderin' out-loud, I guess...

Bill, they are wood shells 6 or 9 ply its hard to count them, the center ply is very dark and wide. I have not removed any heads, just looking at the bottom of the snare.

The badge on the jazz kit is much different then the President kit. The jazz one is a sticker, the Pres is plastic about 1/8" thick.

I think you are correct that they made these for another company, I sure can not find them in the catalogs. I found a thread from awhile ago from Osakabop, he was trying to date the badge. I an hoping I will hear from him on the results.

Great score, street price on a new UFIP class splash has got to be over a 100.00,so with the 18" that is a couple hundred bux right there.

Def looks like light blue pearl to me,I had an early mid 60's Pearl kit in that finish, the 16 ft was a seven hole rim.

The kit I had had chrome pitting on the lugs and chrome had flaked of the rims, but the wrap cleaned up great, looked as nice as yours, and I have seen pics of other sets and most of the time the wrap still looks fantastic. It makes me think that particular wrap is inherently very fade resistant.

As an aside, that wrap looks fantastic under any kind of stage lighting,I got comments from musicians and non musicians alike on how nice they looked quite often.I used them in my first blues band, and we dressed in a vintage inspired manner, and the kit really fit and helped get the whole vibe across.

Thank you, Im a Bears fan actually but not really against Detroit. The Zildjian is an 18" crash, made in usa with the large Zildjian logo in black ink on the bottom. Nice sounding cymbal! I have alot to learn about cymbals.

Bears fan here too! I spent some of my childhood years in a suburb outside Chicago. Got hooked early!

Nice score on the new kit. It's a beauty and very original looking..... nice wrap color.

Glenn.

Not a guru just havin fun with some old dusty drums.
