1960's Ludwig Bass Drums

Loading...

In the early 60's, did ludwig used to mark the bass drum size with a white writing utensil (cant tell if it's like chalk or something from the picture) inside the shell? I have noticed a big "22" inside the shell on some 22" bass drums I have been looking at.

This was a common practice, although certainly not ALL of the drums have markings. I've got several early 60s Ludwigs that do, however. You'll also find snares with wooden shells that have also been marked -- i.e., 14 x 5, etc.
