I bought a new Recording kit in -91, pre-yess.
My guess is 1992-93....
Contacted Yamaha on this & was told that a letter wasn't applied to badges, & that this was a not so uncommon occurrence. The kit's essentially flawless w/ no mods, so the mounts couldn't have been added aftermarket.

... also remember that Yamaha allowed YESS as an option after it was introduced, so there will be kits out there sans the YESS when they should be wearing them ... just another fun fact from the kitchen of Chef Zucchini.
by the by ... very cool find, Hobbs. Would love to see some pics of it. I don't regret selling mine, but I do miss the RC kit at times. Good on ya for nabbing this one.Jump For Joy
hey rogersling -
i'll post some pics tomorrow. My 2nd kit was a Yamaha stage hunk-o-junk in the 80's. I slobbered, dribbled & drooled over the pretty photos from the circa '86 catalog of that massive black RC kit. Now that I have it set up & dinked @ on it it's not what I'm into now. It sounds great w/ t/ original heads (except the bd - having issues tuning it; suspect it's t/ dang reso head w/ t/ heart cut out of it), a bit thick sounding & too bombastic. I've been playing for a while a Ludwig bdp '66 kit w/ J1 etched heads & there's no arguing between the two which has more musicality & nuance; the RC just sits & stares like the strong, silent type, which is hard thing for a kit to do.
The kit I played for a bunch of years & recently sold - Yamaha Maple Custom Absolute champagne sparkle 12/13/14/16/20 - t/ is the kit I'm missing a bit.
The RC was on CL w/ some crappy pics w/ none of those drum green berets t/ scramble units w/in minutes of the post hitting the boards did a thing @; perhaps they thought they were w/ever stage series Y put the exact RC lugs on. Funny thing, the kit had paste 502 cymbals - talk @ a mismatch!
Ciao for now - Chris

Oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh yeah!!! That's a nice kit!
Nice kit! But it is not from 1986. Maybe 1996....or 2006 :-)
80´s drums have vent hole´s in the badge.
Two badges on each tom. One of them ventilated.
Bass drums had one badge with vent hole in it.
Hey ringo -
Y clarified it isn't an 80's kit; said probably latish 90's - c
