Hi, I ran across a Sonor bass drum at 20 inches by 14 inches. has label that says oak veneers. it has an early 80's badge. I am hoping someone can help me with a value estimate so I know if this is a good buy. hardware all intact but a little rusted. some slight scratches. help if you can.

It's value might be estimated better when you figure in the time it will take to return the drum to playable or collectible status.

If it is rusted beyond being able to rectify the situation by yourself I would think it would detract from the value of the drum. If it's just some surface rust that will clean off with a good polishing it might be worth more.

Other factors to estimate the value would be if the scratches are unrepairable, that too would detract from the collectability, not so much that you wouldn't WANT the drum, but to whether it was "pristine" enough to make it a showcase piece worthy of high monitory value.

If you are a collector, perfection (or the ability to attain it) will really factor into what the drum is worth and what it is worth to you. If it is just a "players" drum that has to look pretty good from 5 feet away, sound good and fit into the set you are buying it for that might be a different price range.

Are you looking at this drum to be a collector piece? Or are you just buying it as a "Players" piece?

How much you're paying and a picture or two would also help as it would show just what drum it is and the condition of it and really help people (especially the Sonar experts) see exactly what it is and the condition of it to evaluate it further.
