putting a 14/6 lug tom on legs without drilling (RIMS mounts)?

I have a beautiful 1937 Ludwig kit that I'd like to turn the 14" rack tom into a floor tom with legs. Has anyone used GPI dynamounts? Any other cheaper solutions?

Thanks!

i wouldn't drill it for any amount of money, but the dynamount is really the only option.

What about something like this ^^^^ I was looking at these for my RK floor tom. My shell was factory drilled for the stock leg mounts. If I wasn't able to find a set I was going to try one of these. No idea how good or bad they are..... just throwing it out there.

Oh sorry that's probably the same tom mount you were looking at? Maybe not though it's a DSS.

What If it is a 6 lug 14" drum?

That's a good question Blair. It looks like it has 4 tabs and I'm not sure how well they'd line up with the 6 lug version. If the tabs are adjustable so they can be placed in different spots I'd think it would be ok. If the tabs are spot welded in place maybe not so much.

I think the hoop with the legs would choke the drum too much, why not put it on a snare stand ? Three little points of contact !!

I found a better pic of the DSS FT mount. The attachment ears do look like they are fixed (tack welded) in one postion. It's too bad they didn't make the ears adjustable sliders like the new Gretsch SC-GTS tom mounts. This would open them up to fit a larger selection of 6 and 8 lug floor toms. And I see no 6 lug DSS FT mount available. That said I think one could covnvert a DSS floor tom mount to accept the SC-GTS sliders. You'd need to channel the support rim on the DSS and remove the tack welded support ears. They both use rubber bushings where the tom rim contact points are. The SC-GTS sliders have a lip ontop that hooks over the rim which is nice and helps support the drum. If it were me I'd want to see everything in person to be sure it can be done. The DSS mount is like $60 and no idea what the Gretsch parts would run. Maybe $20-30 for 4 slider mounts. But you'd have a pretty slick mount system for your floor tom!! flower Or just fab new ears and have them bolt on the support rim. There's a few ways it can be done.

Here's the 2 mount systems I'm talking about. You'd want the slider feet off the SC-GTS and slot the support rim on the DSS for them to be adjustable or drill holes for fixed postions. Seeing how the DSS has no 6 lug version available.
