Cymbal ID needed; Zildjian Sweet Ride?

Loading...

Got a ride cymbal from a friend of mine recently; he wasn't sure what it was but thought it might be a Sweet Ride. Judging by the pics I've seen it would be a likely match, but maybe someone here can help...

Can't tell from the pics. USUALLY, you can see the faint remains of the ink on the cymbal, or maybe it will look like a really clean spot in the shape of letters. Hold the cymbal up to the light and look for the irregular reflection.

Is it 21"? Looks kinda like an A Custom ride to me. I would only be able to tell by playing it. If it's too washy to be a useful ride, yet too clangy to sound good as a crash, it's probably a Sweet Ride!

I'm guessing we don't like the Sweet Ride, eh?

Sounds good to my ears. All I've ever had for a ride was a ****ty B8. Too cheap to ever spend the money on something nice, so this was a welcome replacement, whatever it may be!

I've owned 5 of them and never fully liked any one of them. It was a "jack of all trades, master of none" cymbal. That's just my opinion, though, and maybe I got all duds. They certainly get lots of love on other drum forums. Just not my cup of tea, I guess, but DEFINITELY an improvement over the B8 you had...

That appears to be a stamped trademark, which would put it in the early 90s at the youngest (if I'm not mistaken). I don't know when the Sweet Ride was introduced, so I can't say if it could be or not.

Although I respectfully disagree with caddywumpus' statement, the description is very close - they tend to have a fairly defined ping with washy overtones and are slightly to very clangy when crashed, depending on thickness. I love my 21" Sweet Ride. It works very well for what I do, but I play bluesy rock...I think caddy plays harder stuff. I remember thinking it sounded terrible when I played in a hard rock band. I got a brilliant finished one, which seems to focus the ping a bit more than the traditional finished ones.

I hope this helps, but regardless of what it is - ENJOY!!!

I think caddy plays harder stuff.

Where in the WORLD did you get THAT idea?!?!? :O

I play everything from jazz to world music to classic rock. No "harder stuff" here. I'm not offended or anything. I'm just curious as to how that thought came to be...

I apologize. I think I confused you with someone else whose username I can't seem to recall. For some reason, I guess I associated the two of you from having read posts from the both of you close to the same time. Anyway, I remember someone mentioning that they play hard rock and, for some reason, I thought I remembered it being you. My mistake. DOH

Ha! Yeah, no worries! I was just wondering if you derived that from my posting in any way...
