Week-end Finds!

Loading...

I was fortunate enough to pick up two new additions to my meager personal collection of vintage American-made snares over the week-end. I'm hoping that you "experts" out there can provide some additional information regarding each.

The first is either a WFL or Ludwig (I'm not sure since the strainer says WFL, but the badge is a Ludwig transition badge) White Marine Pearl Super Classic.

The second is a George Way Black Diamond Pearl Aristocrat.

I'm trying to determine whether this particular Super Classic would be considered a "Buddy Rich" Super Classic or simply a Super Classic. I've read and received conflicting information regarding this particular question. Someone mentioned something about the configuration of the snare butt. Also, is this particular drum considered a WFL Super Classic or a Ludwig Super Classic?

In regard to the Aristocrat, is there any way of identifying the year this particular one was manufactured? It measures 14 x 5 1/2 including the rims. Any other information regarding this particular model would also be appreciated. I haven't seen too many of these around and certainly not in this condition.

As usual, THANKS in advance for your help!

I want to be your friend!

Seriously....NICE drums..... I don't know about the Buddy Rich moniker, but you got some nice drums, there!

Let me think about it for awhile. I've just come back from a gig where I consumed too much wine.

lol!

I don't know if this is going to help, or further confuse the issue of the WFL/CLASSIC, but here goes.

There's lots of info on this site but it takes a bit of searching through stuff. Not that its a bad thing 'cause looking through it can be fun but when you need something fast you might do 3 hours of unrelated looking around 'cause it's so interesting!!

Oh, by the way . . . NICE score, I hope you got them for a great deal.

I had the same WFL snare a while back. I believe it is called the Buddy Rich Super Classic based on the WMP...no other reason........

Well, the finish is not a big factor, because the drum named the Buddy Rich Super Classic came in a variety of finishes. Although Buddy was a WMP guy...

There were two different butts on that drum and one did have an extended butt. That was during the earlier times of that drum when it was named the Buddy Rich Super Classic..

Then the name changed and also the butt side changed to a standard butt like the one on your drum.

Technically called The Super Classic and the Buddy name was dropped.

So, that exact year and the year of your drum with that badge puts it at around 1958-1959.

1959 is the catalog I show the name change in. I have to look if there was a 1958 catalog.

Yes, I have had this happen before.... The cookie sessions for the server are set not to do that, which browser are you using and are you saving cookies as Viper suggests?

THANKS to all for the great feedback (as usual)!

Very helpful information and links.

JRichard:

I believe that I've now identified the model of my George Way snare, thanks to the camcodrummer website that you provided. It's known as the "Casino Aristocrat". I certainly appreciate your time and input!Mallet Player2

Finally got a chance to take a few pics of the Rogers Kit I also picked up last week-end. I just couldn't pass it up for the listed price. The finish on this one is really in pristine condition.
