What kind of premier kit?

Loading...

The Color of wrap makes me think 70's,it looks like the FT could be mahogany, the BD from what I could see looked Birch,The mahog shell were a mid 70's thing, and from what I understand some sets came with a mix of mahog and birch int shells.

Nice kit, should clean up great, the kits I have seen from that era were beautifully built and finished.

Hey thanks for all the input guys and the owner and his dad have owned it for the last 30 years. They seemed to think birch shells and when they got it, it came with the brass snare. I won't be picking it up for another 2 weeks and I hate not being able to do it straight away. It has been used for mainly recording sessions and it takes normal heads...I will post pics of toms, kick drum shells as soon as I pick her up..... So excited ( jumping up and down like a kid in a lolly shop) and can't wait to use it for my next gig.

Welcome to the wonderful world of owning and playing Premier drums.

The snare is a nice shell, loud but warm, but has a non-original strainer fitted. Nice for playing, as the original snare wires are expensive and only come in one material.

The other drums will likely make you a happy man!

Regards

Hi John,

Thanks for that. I am hoping to pick up the kit sooner than later and suss out the whole kit. With the snare, I ain't too sure about keeping it yet? and it will all depend on the sound I guess. I already have a brass snare and I love that. It would be a waste to not use it if it's a beautiful snare. I will post better picks of the kit when I pick her up and try to nail the type of wood the kit is made of. You wouldn't know the model of snare it is by any chance?

It seems to be a Royal Ace, but as with a non-original strainer fitted.

Got the kit and it looks good. It has re-rings in kick and toms, the lugs are the slotted type and the wood appears perfect. I will definitely need to do a rewrap as it is cracking in spots on kick. I have to go and Find a tuning key to take the heads off to have a look at the bearing edges and I will post up pics later. The snare looks in good condition and is missing a knob for muffler and no extra holes in shell. So maybe I could get the original strainer as its a royal ace snare.

A screwdriver or coin works for taking the heads off too!

well the bearing edges, inside of shells, re-rings are in good condition and require no work. the wrap is ok and will do, but i wouldnt mine rewrapping the kit down the track. the kick drum is a 22x14 not a 20x14, will fit a new powerstroke tomorrow and see what she sounds like. fitted new emperor clears to toms and they are singing!!!!! i am fitting new snare wires to snare and a new head tomorrow...but i wouldnt mind the original strainer if anyone has one for sale for a royal ace snar

i think the kit may of been a custom order for a left sided player? when i set the kit up for myself, the spurs are up my end and if you face it so the spurs are facing the correct end, the cymbal mount sits to the left of kick and tom mount looks in right position. i will post pics of it as soon as i get the chance.

has anyone came across this before? i dont mind as i wont be mounting tom on kick drum. i will probably use the tom mount to mount a ride cymbal instead.
